FREEDOME VPN installation fails on a computer with a ZoneAlarm firewall This topic explains what to do if FREEDOME VPN installation fails on a PC with ZoneAlarm firewall.
Symptoms
If you have a ZoneAlarm firewall installed on your PC, this causes your FREEDOME VPN installation to fail. A FREEDOME VPN error message stating "Something went wrong" may appear, or FREEDOME VPN may request a reboot during installation.
Diagnosis
The reason for this is that the ZoneAlarm firewall blocks the installation of the FREEDOME TAP network driver. This applies to both new FREEDOME VPN installations and upgrades.
Solution
To work around the issue:
- Uninstall the ZoneAlarm firewall.
- After ZoneAlarm is uninstalled, we strongly recommend that you turn on the Windows firewall.
- Install FREEDOME VPN again.
Note: If you just disable ZoneAlarm, it will not prevent this issue from occurring.
Once FREEDOME VPN is installed on the computer, ZoneAlarm can be reinstalled. Note, however, that with the next FREEDOME VPN upgrade, the issue will occur again.
