Frequently asked questions about the new F-Secure app launched on February 14, 2023 This article provides answers to questions you may have regarding the new F-Secure app and how to migrate from F-Secure SAFE and F-Secure TOTAL to the F-Secure app.
We have compiled a list of FAQs regarding the new F-Secure app and the F-Secure offering as of February 14, 2023. The list is not exhaustive, and new questions will be added if needed. We recommend that you return to this article if you have further questions about our new offering.
What is the F-Secure app?
Before February 14, 2023, you had to install separate apps on your devices when you wanted to secure them against online threats, to protect your identity against identity theft and to secure your privacy when using untrusted networks, such as open WiFi networks at airports, hotels etc. As of February 14, you only need the F-Secure app to protect you and your devices from these threats as all these protection features are now available in one single app.
In the end it's up to you to decide what features you want to include in your subscription. Later, if the need arises, you can extend the range of protection features on the app without having to reinstall the app.
I currently have an F-Secure SAFE subscription. How does this affect me?
We have made the migration from F-Secure SAFE to the new F-Secure app really easy for you. You don't need to do anything. You will be migrated automatically to the new F-Secure app, and the F-Secure SAFE subscription name will be changed to F-Secure Internet Security. This new subscription name is more transparent and conveys even better the actual purpose of the security service. Later if you think that you need to add more protection features to your subscription, you can take the additional protection features in use without having to reinstall the app on your device.
I currently have an F-Secure TOTAL subscription. How does this affect me?
You will be migrated to the new F-Secure app automatically. After the migration, you'll have the same security, privacy and identity protection features in use as you had earlier but now on one single app.
As soon as the upgrade has finished, we recommend you to check that you can find all your passwords and other personal information on the new F-Secure app. Do not uninstall your current F-Secure ID PROTECTION app until you have made sure that your passwords have been moved to the new app.
Note: If you have been using F-Secure ID PROTECTION only on your mobile devices, you need to manually move your Vault data to the new F-Secure app. You can find detailed instructions on how to move your passwords from F-Secure ID PROTECTION to the F-Secure app in the following help article (applies to both Android and iOS devices): Moving your passwords from the F-Secure ID PROTECTION app to the F-Secure app on a mobile device.
When the new F-Secure app is first launched, the Windows version of the app's VPN will initially lack the App bypass feature. However, the feature will be added to the app later.
I currently have an F-Secure TOTAL or F-Secure SAFE subscription. When will I get the new F-Secure app?
We have started the migration for our current users. However, note that it may take a few weeks before you get the new F-Secure app. As soon as the automatic update finishes, your current F-Secure SAFE app will become your new F-Secure app. You can see that the update has finished once your current F-Secure SAFE app has been renamed to F-Secure.
Are you a mobile phone or tablet user and your F-Secure SAFE app has not yet been renamed to F-Secure? If you have selected not to update apps automatically in your device settings, you need to update the F-Secure SAFE app manually to the new F-Secure app.
The new F-Secure app is currently (February 24, 2023) available for all users with devices running on the following platforms:
I'm currently using F-Secure SAFE as part of my F-Secure TOTAL subscription. Will my current F-Secure FREEDOME VPN and F-Secure ID PROTECTION apps continue to work once I have the new F-Secure app?
Yes, both F-Secure FREEDOME VPN and F-Secure ID PROTECTION apps will work as before until you uninstall the apps. However, we recommend that you start using the Privacy VPN and Password Vault features in the F-Secure app instead.
Note: VPN software permits only one connection at a time. If you still have F-Secure FREEDOME VPN installed, make sure that you don't have both VPNs turned on at the same time. Currently, if you have FREEDOME VPN turned on and then turn Total's Privacy VPN on, the network stops working until you turn off one of the VPN connections.
I have an F-Secure FREEDOME VPN subscription. Does this app upgrade affect me?
No, if you only have a subscription for F-Secure FREEDOME VPN, these changes won't affect you and the standalone app you are using. The upgrade concerns only the customers who have been using our apps with an F-Secure SAFE or F-Secure TOTAL subscription.
I have an F-Secure ID PROTECTION subscription. Does this app upgrade affect me?
No, if you only have a subscription for F-Secure ID PROTECTION, these changes won't affect you and the standalone app you are using. The upgrade concerns only the customers who have been using our apps with an F-Secure SAFE or F-Secure TOTAL subscription.
