Hello Cybersecurity Enthusiast,

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the standalone F-Secure ID Protection reaching its end of life after May 22nd, 2024 😢. This decision means that these products will no longer protect your devices or receive updates beyond this date.

However, we have been hard at work to ensure a smooth transition. The F-Secure app, introduced in February 2023, will replace the old product, with the transition scheduled to commence on April 24th, 2024. The best part? There's no need to worry about additional costs, as your existing subscription will seamlessly transfer to the new product, preserving any remaining duration.

For further details, please visit the following link:

We understand that this change may come as a surprise, however, please know that we're here to support you every step of the way. Should you have any inquiries or concerns, feel free to reach out to us. Your satisfaction and security remain our top priorities.

Thank you for being a valued member of the F-Secure community. Your trust and loyalty mean the world to us.

I tried to install the new app. But I had to delete my virusscanner from my provider (KPN) and that is your virusscanner (License KPN Netherlands?)

    Hello @RobertH

Welcome to the F-Secure Community and thank you for your comment.

We regret to inform you that we've identified a compatibility issue between the new F-Secure app and your KPN app (a customized version of F-Secure). This arises because our F-Secure app is categorized as an Anti-Virus App, which unfortunately makes it incompatible with the KPN app. This could potentially lead to conflicts and compromise your device's security measures.

Regrettably, it's not feasible to run two antivirus programs simultaneously on your device. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and we regret for any disruption to your experience. Our top priority is to ensure the highest level of security and performance for your device, and this compatibility issue presents a limitation to achieving that goal. Consequently, it's not possible to have both applications installed on the same device.

If you have any questions or need further assistance regarding this issue, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. We're here to support you and ensure a seamless transition.

Once again, we regret for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I totally get the purpose of the update, but it should also state that
some 'devices' (SSG8+ for instance) are not supported by the new app. Is
there any workaround for this other than upgrading the devices to newer
    ones?

    Best regards

    Hello @Jensinii @Fdesmit

Welcome to the F-Secure Community. Thank you for your comment.

    @Jensinii

The new version of F-Secure requires a minimum of Android version 10, iOS 16.0, Windows 8.1, or macOS 12 to ensure full compatibility with the application. For a comprehensive overview of the system requirements, please refer to this link.

We recommend our users to update their operating systems to meet these requirements by December 31st, 2023. For more guidance on this, you can find detailed instructions in this article.

    @Fdesmit

We regret to hear that you're experiencing difficulties logging into the new F-Secure app using your existing master password from F-Secure ID Protection. To resolve this issue, we recommend creating a new master password within the new F-Secure app. Be sure to save the recovery code. Afterward, select 'Connect Devices' to sync your password vault from F-Secure ID Protection to the new app. You'll be prompted to enter your master password. Please use the one you've just set up for F-Secure ID Protection.

This should resolve the login issue. Should you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope you have a great day.

Dears, I would like to report the same issue. With a different Dutch internet provider (DELTA), who is also offering virus scanner via F-Secure. I use this, and have a private subscription for ID-Protection. I face the same issue with the new "all-in-one" app. Please take this up within your company as you should find a way to support this situation for users. Simply saying this is not working, isn't good enough. Thank you for your reply!

    Hello Firmy,

I have a similar problem as RobertH… in my case I'm using WithSecure Elements and it's incompatible with the new F-Secure App.

I just contacted the support and created a ticket that has beens scalated but… I still can not understand a few things…

    1. You said above…
"F-Secure app is categorized as an Anti-Virus App…"
Is it just "categorized" or is actually "acting as" an Anti-Virus app?
If it's not ACTING as an AV defense then you MUST solve this incompatibility issue otherwise the computers (at least Windows 10) will not have an effective protection!
    2. I did not remember do have seen any early warning about this incompatibility issue with the new version. Maybe I didn't get any information or I did miss to see/understand… anyway, according to me, it has not been clearly communicated.

In my case I do have some customer that are using both software (F-Secure ID protection AND WithSecure Elements) and this incompatibility issue will create a nightmare…
If we/they must choose the will definitely keep Elements and drop F-Secure…. then we have the issue with their subscription…. money out of window?

I do really hope you guys find a solution for this!
I have been using F-secure for decades and I'm even a reseller so until now I did trust 100% on the company and your products but this issue now is a really big disappointment.

    Hello @VFRschoot @Calango_IT

Welcome to the F-Secure Community. Thank you for your comment.

We understand that this change may bring challenges for you, and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to improve our services. Unfortunately, using the new F-Secure program alongside WithSecure Element or F-Secure based program is currently not possible.

If you have WithSecure Element or F-Secure based app installed on your computer, please be aware that it's not compatible with the new F-Secure app. After April 24th, 2024, new installations or renewals of old applications will not be possible. Additionally, existing installations will no longer receive updates after May 22nd, 2024.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause. We highly value your patience and understanding during this transition period, and we are committed to assisting you at every step.

Thank you and have a good day.

    Hello @Firmy

Thank you for your answer, but….

I still don't understand WHY F-Secure decides to transform a password vault app into a "AV solution!!" that creates a nightmare for paying and loyal subscribers!!!
What shall I say to my customers? "Sorry… you no longer are able to use the F-Secure product that you paided for"….

Unfortunally my patience is gone after this catastrofic decision from F-Secure…😡

I have been using and paying F-Secure Key/ID protection for many years but now I will have to find another solution that I can trust! for mine and my customers password vault needs.

Good luck for F-Secure to keep selling this product… I'm gone!

same here.. the integration of the password product into VPN, web browser blabla stuff and other items I do not want/need is super annoying.. the product used to be super fast to be used (even without web browser password injection and such).. but by integrating it into a product that also does AV, VPN's and much more made it useless for me.. I already have all of those products from another vendor…

Because of that, the install doesnt even complete.. and I'm not removing those products..

I use F-Secure Total and I was really happy to be able to independently install ID protection on my phone. After integration I have to use one Total license to install it. Since all of these licenses are in use I have to buy another one. This is very anoying.

I absolutely hate this upgrade. I no longer can have my F-Secure Password Vault across my 3 devcies as my work uses WithSecure EPP + EDR. I now need to find another product for my password vault. We have been an F-Secure Reseller Partner for 20 years and with this change they have lost a customer.

This is really a huge downgrade of the product that I bought and when trying to make the change on my IPad, there’s no password vault option in the F-secure app, even though it’s the latest version, so how I shall use it in the future, that I do not know. As a holder of subscription with 10 devices, I’m seriously thinking about leaving F-secure and find another solution.

Wait, what. Does this really mean that if I have F-Secure ID Protection on my work laptop, after the update there is no updated standalone version of it? How can I use it then?

Is the only way to keep using ID Protection to install F-Secure Total, the whole product? Oh well, of course I cannot install F-Secure Total on my work laptop. This can't be it…

I'm in the same boat as the other guys here. I cannot use F-secure on my work laptop which is my main laptop as my work uses MS Defender (I also used the sync to phone and tablet). With ID Protection it worked fine as it was just a password manager, which exactly what I bought the license for. Now I feel cheated as I paid for a one year license and in the middle of the license period I cannot use the software anymore. Good buy F-secure, won't be coming back to you.

    Hello @Calango_IT @AussieDisti

We understand the situation and sincerely regret any inconvenience caused. An official statement will soon be published on the Partner Portal. I recommend checking the Partner Portal for more detailed information next Monday.

    Hello @RCZ2001

F-Secure is currently moving towards a single app model where the subscription type determines which protection capabilities are enabled for the user. The transition period from old separate applications to the new model has been causing problems to some of the Windows and Mac users. The problems have been due to trying to install multiple F-Secure-based product configurations on the same computer.

In the single app model, installation of two F-Secure applications regardless of the product branding is not possible on a Windows or a Mac computer. The recommendation is to select the offering from a single service provider. Both F-Secure and the majority of F-Secure's service provider partners offer the new F-Secure Total with a full set of protection capabilities enabling you to select your preferred service provider.

Note! This limitation does not impact mobile platforms (Android and iOS).

Scenario 1: Two licenses from two different service providers

These instructions apply in case you have two protection services acquired through two different service providers. As an example, you may have acquired separate security, privacy, or identity protection services through your internet service provider, retail or F-Secure.

Recommendation: Select protection from a single service provider. Most service providers have
F-Secure’s comprehensive protection in their offering.

Scenario 2: Two licenses from F-Secure

These instructions apply in case you have acquired two separate protection services from F-Secure. These services could be any combination of F-Secure Total, Internet Security, ID Protection, and Freedome. All these capabilities are now accessible through the new single app.

    Hello @eepuha

The Password Vault feature is included in F-Secure Total. Therefore, you will need to install the new app to access the Password Vault. Additionally, if you already have antivirus software installed on your work laptop, it may be incompatible with the F-Secure app.

    Hello @brunnsbe2024

Upon reviewing your subscription, I can confirm that there are no issues. Since you have subscribed only to F-Secure ID Protection, migrating to the new app will offer you only the Password Vault and ID Monitoring options. It should function as intended.

    Hello @Pete110

You will need to release one license since you have utilized all the licenses from your subscription. In the F-Secure Total, you already have Password Vault which offers the same feature as F-Secure ID Protection. Hence, I would suggest you to utilize the feature on the new F-Secure app.

    Hello @Nanoonan63

Upon checking, it appears that you have successfully migrated to the new app. If the issue persists, please consider creating a new post for us to further investigate. Another suggestion is to uninstall and reinstall the app on your iPad.

Thank you, and have a great day.

@Firmy the company I work for see F-secure's single application as a virus protection (although I'm using it only as a password manager) and it's therefore getting automatically uninstalled as the company runs MS Defender as the virus protection. This makes it impossible for me to use it on my main laptop so it doesn't work as intended. You could of course argue that it's my problem between me and work but it's a side effect of your change.

I am experiencing the same problem and can no longer use the standalone password manager.

I paid for this until August 20, 2024, but can no longer use the new app.because F-Secure does not deliver what was promised when taking out this subscription, this means that money has been stolen by F-Secure from now until August 20, 2024.

I have therefore terminated my F-Secure subscription because I no longer have confidence in F-Secure due to all of this.

Fortunately, my old password manager, which I have kept up to date in addition to F-Secure, can be trusted and I will continue with that.

    Hi

I have both Internet Security and ID Protection. These are on separate accounts as per F-Secure requirements. Now there was a notice in the ID Prot that it's been discontinued and that I should install the new app. I'm on Windows. So I login to F-Secure and download the software and it says I already have it installed.

I think I installed Internet Security SW, maybe that makes sense. How do I get the ID prot working on the new SW? Maybe I should install Total? I tried, but I don't know how to download that without buying it.

    Hello @brunnsbe2024 @Mug

    Thank you for your comment.

    We regret the inconvenience caused.

F-Secure is transitioning to a single app model where the subscription type determines which protection capabilities are enabled for the user. We are continuously improving our product to better protect our users.

Again, we regret the inconvenience this may have caused.

Dear F-Secure, it is with great regret that I observe the method and realization of this change/migration. It appears not fair to force someone having bought one product to change into a un-packable bundle of several products. As others have noted, it is not unreasonable to assume that in current IT-landscape people having used e.g. only password manager and need only that won’t be able to use the new bundle of products because some parts of the bundle, which are unecessary for a user (apparently in particular the Anti-Virus part) are incompatible with one’s system. It is indeed mild to say it is unfair that someone having paid for a product is forced into another product which does not match the needs of the user and not work.

In my case I have been using the password manager and now cannot install the new ”Total protection” in my systems. I feel let down. I feel particularly let down as I believed a Finnish company could be trusted and do its job. This ”migration” is exectuted with such unprofessionalism I could not have expected from a front-end Finnish engineering company.

I would like you to provide me guideline how can I redeem the cost of my remaining subscription, which I will not be able to use.

It makes me really sad that it came to this. A Finnish company of all.

    Hi

    I agree with Tunnus1234567890.

My company provides me mobile device with WithSecure solution.

I have been using IDProtection with my own license as part of my family Fsecure Total solution.

Now there is no way to use IDProtection on my phone since stand alone installation is not possible.

I have purchased 3 year multiple user license, but now it is cripled since products are not available.

There have been other unwanted changes as well. After this license period (532 days lef ) it is somewhat unlikely that I shall continue using Fsecure products after almost 30 years of cooperation.

"The best part? There's no need to worry about additional costs, as your existing subscription will seamlessly transfer to the new product, preserving any remaining duration."

This isn't entirely honest. Previously you were able to allocate separate apps on multiple devices when needed, e.g. if you only needed VPN on one device and a virus-scanner on another. Now that they are forced into one package this is no longer possible, so the value of TOTAL took a significant hit with this. I understand that it's easier to manage for F-secure this way, but it is a downgrade for many of us. That's why trying to sell it as the quote above is rather insulting to us users.

    Hello!

F-Secure's phone support told me that the old ID Protection application is usable until May 2025 if moving to the new app is not possible, as is my case and many others seem to have the same situation.

But how can I download ID Protection for Windows or MacOS at the moment if I need to install it to a new computer? My F-Secure doesn't support installing the ID Protection application any longer.

    Best wishes,

    Mikael
