Using F-Secure Total to protect devices in a small-sized business This article describes the recommended way of protecting devices in a small office or home office.
Important: Depending on the coverage of the subscription, up to 25 devices (computers, phones and tablets) can be protected with one subscription.
F-Secure Total is most effective for businesses with a maximum of 9 individuals, as My F-Secure allows for one main user and up to eight sub-users. To find out how to share protection with your colleagues, see the following help topic: Sharing protection with a family member or friend.
Due to this constraint, if your company has more than 9 users, we suggest avoiding the creation of sub-users. Instead, include all the devices requiring protection under the main user. Designate one of your employees as the main user or administrator responsible for managing licenses for the entire company.
Note: For security reasons, if your subscription includes the password manager feature, all users in the company must have an account of their own. In other words, the main user must add them as sub-users in My F-Secure.
Instructions for the main user (administrator)
Before you start protecting employees' devices, make a list of all the employees whose devices need protection. The list should contain the following information about each employee:
- name
- email address
- phone number
- device type(s)
Note: You need to give the employees the My F-Secure account username and password of the main user. They need the credentials when installing the F-Secure app on their devices. We recommend that you create a dedicated email address for the main user, such as "main.user@company.com". Use this email address as the username when creating the My F-Secure account.
To protect the required company devices, complete the following steps for each device:
- As the main user (or administrator), create a My F-Secure account, or if you already have an account, log in to My F-Secure. For more information on My F-Secure, see Introducing My F-Secure.
- In My F-Secure, select Add device.
- Select My device > Continue. The device type selection window opens.
- Depending on the device that you want to protect, select one of the following options:
- Select Continue.
- Enter the email address of the employee whose computer you want to protect and select Send. The F-Secure installation link is sent to the given email address and the employee can start installing the app on their computer.
- Select Continue.
- With tablets and phones, you can select whether to send the installation link via email or text message. Depending on your choice, enter either the email address or phone number of the employee whose device you want to protect and select Send. The F-Secure installation link is sent via the chosen method to the employee's device. The employee can start installing the app on their device.
- Give the employees the My F-Secure account log-in information. The account credentials are needed when the employees install the app on their devices.
- Each employee should notify you of the device name of the protected device. As soon as you have received the device name, rename the device in My F-Secure so that the device name clearly indicates also the owner of the device. This is the only way for you to keep track of the protected devices and their owners.

The device name is shown automatically in My F-Secure, but since the device name does not necessarily indicate the owner of the device, the main user needs to know who the device belongs to.
