Setup closes as soon as it opens
I have a problem with Setup of Total closing as soon as it is opened.
I chatted with support about that and got the instructions to Turn on the Debug Logging and then upload fsdiag file .
This is what I have
When I click the settings icon the GUI closes like it does when I click VPN and then Continue.
If I click VPN icon in the system tray and select open something flashes and the system tray closes.
Restarted the PC and ran the standalone FSdiag.
The result is what I uploaded.
Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 25H2
Installed on 22/08/2026
OS build 26200.9168
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.344.0
Because the Setup closes immediately I cannot turn Debug logging on. But I did send the fsdiag file.
After that I did not hear anything for a while. Then I send an email enquiring the situation.
The response was

Hello,
Just to clarify:
so, has the installation of F-Secure Total already been completed before?! Or are you just trying to install it / to start using it?
If it is a fresh 'installation' - has the product ever been installed on this system before? Was there any upgrade/update after (like from Windows 10 to Windows 11; or from one 'major' to another 'major' version of Windows 11)?
if it is existed or partially completed installation: do you mean that it is possible to open main user interface (to see modules like Device Protection, Scam Protection, Password Vault, ID Monitoring, VPN and so on), but as soon as you tried to open "Settings" via main user interface menu - it is 'crashed'. Or when you tried to open "Settings" via the main logo in the system tray; or if you attempted to use the VPN logo in the system tray to open the settings. And 'crash' events includes visiting VPN card (after you've clicked "Continue" there)?
In that case, is it possible to open other modules (Device Protection, Scam Protection, People & Devices or whatever is available) in main UI?
And / Or entire 'trouble' is pinned only to inability to open "SETTINGS" and "VPN" windows / UI (due crash or something else)?
In general, I can suggest to look at Event Viewer (I am not sure how to open it with Windows 11, but probably something like: Start on the Windows menu, type Event Viewer, Click or Enter to open the Event Viewer; if system is localized - then Event Viewer as well; but by typing "Event" you should still be able to find it). Then, look there for all events - Errors type. Maybe something is logged there if there are some crashes within opened executables (.NET applications).
Other steps to troubleshoot:
- do "SHIFT+rightclick" (press and hold the shift key on keyboard while you right-click by mouse) on F-Secure tray logo; See if there is a new line like 'software rendering'. Click it; try to repeat trouble with that option. Probably unrelated, but anyway.
- it is strange that you do able see / open some parts of UI; otherwise - there are much more points to check about Webview2 and .NET frameworks (let's suppose articles are up-to-date: Installing Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime manually and How do I install .NET 10.0?
In general, one of those can be broken or corrupted. So, maybe, to uninstall / install back is worth to try after checking some events in system's Event Viewer (in case if there any clear reason for crash / inability to open Settings or VPN card).
Also, are all system updates installed? And is it possible to try open F-Secure TOTAL with administrator rights by some way (like rightclick desktop logo or its Start menu's one)?
Thanks!

Thanks Ukko you are the äijä.
"SHIFT+rightclick" did the trick. I had earlier on another PC a problem that the main user interface was blank. Then "SHIFT+rightclick" was the solution. It was a while ago and I had forgotten the SHIFT part and rightclick only did not do anything.
It was a fairly fresh installation of 25H2. I had tried to install Total before, but used the Uninstall tool to clean the system before doing the final install which now works just fine. -
It is a good thing the situation was "fixed" by software rendering tweak.
But perhaps it is worth looking into why this happened; and why it occurs often on your devices. Unless, all of them are / were Windows 11 and this is something specific about Windows 11. Or if they are / were different problems (like: one is related to some drivers or whatever; and another one is a plain crash, for example).
I would suggest making sure that your graphics card drivers are all up to date and in good condition. To check if there any system-level or system-wide hardware acceleration settings - and play with them to see if it can be a fix as well (I, usually, tended to disable this wherever I saw it, so, I am not even sure what can actually be configured in Windows 11; and even more - I do not know what is recommended as such).
And, just in case, double-check state of installed WebView2 (mentioned in previous comment).
Because if to think that the situation is not linked to your specific device (or some unique characteristic of it), then there would likely be more complaints within the community. So, probably something is incompatible or outdated (for whatever reason); or maybe broken during update / upgrade (if there was any upgrade / update in place).
But if all is working now (and everything else is working too) - maybe it does not matter; and just enjoy the time. Thanks!

Good to hear it was solved. .NET framework uses hardware accelerated graphics for some effects and this can cause issues with certain versions of display drivers. We were never able to figure out exactly what (since we can't reproduce this problem in our environment) but the 'software rendering' option was added exactly to help with this situation.
It's hidden behind SHIFT because it's a bit confusing option for most users and we can't put it anywhere else. Usually all debug settings are in Settings UI but in this case you can't open that UI.
