Switched from Freedome to F-Secure VPN resulting in problems

After switching from Freedome to F-Secure VPN on my MacOS Sonoma 14.4.1 (Apple M1), I have very slow opening / slow access of websites and web applications.
Often even with timeout errors. Sometimes when I retry a second time, the pages etc. appear.

Are you working on a solution for this massive performance problem?

Hi @thunderstorm . F-Secure are currently investigating an issue with Chrome based browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, etc) but the issue does not affect Microsoft Firefox or Safari (as far as I know). Try using Safari, or if you need to use a Chrome based browser following the workaround by @Firmy on

How can I see this?
My version is: Version 19.5 (61616)
I clicked on "search for updates" and now it says this:

"It can take a few minutes."

But this message does not disappear.
So it does not work?

Probably not. Go into the app Settings and check Updates there. It shows you the recent successful update, next update etc. If the recent update says "1. Jan 1970" you have the same problem as many others with Mac Sonoma, me included. And by the way, there's version 19.6 out there already for Mac, and if it hasn't offered you that, the updates probably don't work. Though, the 19.6 version hasn't solved the update issue on Sonoma. There are now several threads about this issue and we're waiting for a solution.

I think you can get it by uninstalling the current version and then log in to My F-secure and install/add that device again. If the updates had worked, it should've offered you the latest version.

Yes, that worked.

But the version 19.6 still has got the same problem:

01.01.1970 and no update possible.

Yes 19.6 didn't solve the update problem. Btw, can you add Trusted Wifi Networks in the settings? I can't add any network 'cos it doesn't show any of them.

Otherwise my NAS-shares won't mount.
