Hello,

Do you guys use any third-party firewall software with SAFE?

I as gamer have some concerns you know there are people on Online game communites/servers that try to attack ( so called DDoS ) you after they lose or semething like that, my friend got Kaspersky and it got a Network attack blocker feature in it not sure what it does but it might be related to what i'm worried about..

and i don't think Windows Firewall can protect that kind of network attacks or it can?

Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

use any third-party firewall software with SAFE?

and i don't think Windows Firewall can protect that kind of network attacks or it can?

I have tried using third-party firewall with F-Secure SAFE. It was fancy, but my reasons for using this set up were very conditionally Firewall related things (or very advanced features). Modern Windows Firewall (and in general, Windows Security options) provides a sufficient set of tools and capabilities. In part it is even more reliable than a third-party product (for home use).

That is, in principle, it performs the main responsibilities of the Firewall - to block or filter incoming connections (inbound traffic). And it provides the ability to create rules or a set of rules for filtering / blocking outgoing connections and, in general, more precise configuration against some type of threat.  And mostly it works silently. Compatible with most common and usual things (to avoid troubles with general use).

In fact, there may be a situation that only clearly "allowed" connections are permissible. However, manually creating firewall rules can be challenging (or not enjoyable).

To all this, it is possible to add that most often home users will be behind NAT. And some layers of protection are already taken over by your ISP. Whereas, for example, it is possible to customize something on your router in addition (for example).

    So,

I as gamer have some concerns you know there are people on Online game communites/servers that try to attack ( so called DDoS ) you after they lose or semething like that,

Perhaps, depends on your setting and own precautions, certain way of gaming (platform, design, etc.), who act as a attacker and so things. Anyway, have you experienced such an impact?

got Kaspersky and it got a Network attack blocker feature in it not sure what it does but it might be related to what i'm worried about..

Their description sounds good, but I am not sure how it really acts.

In general, I can imagine the strengths and features of the approach, but I think that Windows / F-Secure functionality can also be with some things around, which are partially or completely transferred to a different level of threat understanding.

Anyway, good if there will be response from someone else.

    Thanks!

    Hi!

I use the rebranded version of f-secure safe from my ISP , i have tried to install Comodo Firewall and also Zonealarm free alongside f-secure , but they do not get along , to many conflicts. Nowadays I run a debloated windows 10 system ( done by scripts ) and block as much of the telemetry as I can with o&o shutup 10. besides that I deinstalled / removed all of the preinstalled window apps ( junk ) disabled edge and defender alltogether. I do run windows firewall tough wich got a lot of lolbins added by running the Hard_Configurator tool , which also hardens critical / sensitive windows settings. I also run Hitman Pro Alert belongsides that as a layered approach.

Third party firewall will not protect any form of DDOS attacks as far as i know. You can try the registry hack on your windows but that too will not help to prevent any DDOS attacks. Your wifi router too will not help. But first you need to update your wifi router firmware. Check to see if they have any feature that has DOS protection. If the DDOS attack are so severe you need to check with your ISP. Some of the culprits are using virus to attack your computer while gaming to launch an attack to your computer. If you gaming, even if you make use of VPN your network bandwidth will degrade and will hamper your network connection to a slow down. Some smart kid are building their own linux firewall router and connected to their network to prevent any form of attacks. They knew that Windows operating system will not protect them with such attacks. I do not know whether ASUS Wifi router will built-in antivirus can stop this form of attacks. if you know that such network can cause havoc to your computer and your network, then why gaming in that place.

Please check your computer if there is any spybot, malware, viruses that is still infected to your computer. With second opinion scan. You will require Sophos Hitman Pro. To do testing a scan on your computer. See if it detects anything on your computer. https://secure2.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/hitmanpro.aspx and try to use malwarebytes free version. https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/thankyou/. And download Emsisoft Emergency https://www.emsisoft.com/en/home/emergencykit/. To check to see if detects anything on your computer that is being infected. After you have done that. Disable your Remote Desktop services on your Windows 10 Pro. And also your remote assistant. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-remote-assistance-windows-10. From the link disable Remote Assistant and Remote Desktop. Do a rule on your Windows firewall settings to disable Remote Assistant and Remote Desktop. That goes the same with SSH. Disable the Remote Desktop and SSH on the Windows 10 Service. File Sharing, Network Sharing. Disable NETBIOS. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/networking/configure-tcpip-networking-netbios-turn-off#:~:text=Click%20Start%2C%20point%20to%20Settings,Disable%20NetBIOS%20over%20TCP%2FIP.

Update your Wifi Router firmware and look for any settings that have DOS. And select that. Some WIfi Router like Asus have that feature.

Configure your wifi router IP Address to cloudflare. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-configure-cloudflare-dns-1111-service-windows-10-and-router and https://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-central-news-discussion-contests/473379-how-configure-cloudflares-1-1-1-1-dns-service-windows-10-your-router.html

    See if that works.

If that still does not work. Check your task manager see if there is any programs still goes undetected. And if detected submit that malicious programs that infected to your computer F-Secure for analysis. https://www.f-secure.com/en/business/support-and-downloads/submit-a-sample

And if you still get the same problems. And if you are technical you can built your own firewall router that run linux.

There are programs that can stop ddos attack. Such as Anti-DDOS Guardian. But I do not recommend to install it in your computer if any of you guys here in the forum have use it. I have check that free download with Virustotal.

You can try Anti DDOS Guardian. But it will last for 5 days. https://windowsreport.com/ddos-protection-software/

Firstly check your computer with Hitman Pro, Emsisoft Emergency and Malwarebytes for second opinion scan. With full scan.

Disable your Remote Assistant, Remote Desktop and SSH on Windows 10. Disable the service. Disable fire sharing, network sharing on your Windows Firewall rule. Disable the port number for Remote Desktop, Remote Assistant and SSH on windows firewall rule.

    See if detects anything missing.

Update your Wifi Router firmware. Change your ip address on your router with Cloudflare on your wifi router.

See if that works. Check youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=anti+ddos+guardian
