Cannot update to latest definitions
It just says that updates fail. This is both on Automatic and Manual.
On the notepad it is coming up with the following error messages.

I have this problem too from time to time, but after a few hours it always works again:

F-Secure Client Security 9.32 build 112
Downloaded from the UCL website as my wife is a student at UCL.
It is strange because I downloaded on the 5th October. It then didn't download an update for 2 weeks until the 21/10. I then had a few days of updates and now nothing again since the 25th. Every time I try manually it says the update has failed.

You could try the following;
1. It might be worth trying the Automatic Update Reset Tool: ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/support/tools/FSAUA-Reset/ . You only need to execute it and it will clear the databases and re-download new ones.
2. Or you download the latest databases manually and install them. Download and run fsdbupdate9.exe which contains a new copy of all the databases (Antivirus, Spyware, Spam, Parental, etc).
If the above does not help, try a uninstall/reinstall of F-Secure.
If all else fails contact support providing a FSDIAG;

Hopefully the Automatic Update re-set tool will fix the problem permanently.
I would not use any AV if I could only update every week.
Have you contacted support yet, reporting the problem?
While you are waiting for support to get back to you I would try my previous suggestions.
But let the Forum know how you proceed.

It is normal if you get DNS lookup failure from time to time. But if you get it too frequently, you might want to change to a different DNS that is more reliable such as Google DNS.
So please do:
1) Change to Google DNS
http://www.howtogeek.com/164981/how-to-switch-to-opendns-or-google-dns-to-speed-up-web-browsing/2) After changing it, please flush your DNS. Open up cmd in Administrator mode and type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the " symbol.

I have had a problem already for a while, F-secure could not install updates. In the main menu F-secure just says that Computer is not protected. "Error" and asks to restart the computer.

First, I would upgrade to the latest version of F-Secure IS, the 2014 version; http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/home_global/support/installers
If that does help then try some of the suggestions earlier in this thread.
If all else fails contact support providing a FSDIAG;
