Hi,

F-Secure's VPN blocks the connection between my phone and computer if either one has the VPN on.

I've tried adding Phone Link to the list of allowed programs in the VPN without success because I can't install Phone Link there as I can't find its location on the computer. I've also added the Wi-Fi network to trusted networks.

Any help?

    Windows 11 PC←—>Android 15 mobile ( Phone Link)

How about the VPN killswitch option,is it on ?(it shoud be off on both side)

Allow local services option on the mobile(android side, vpn option)

My phone is Android 14 Samsung S24 FE and Windows 11.

I removed the killswitch from both devices and allowed local services on the phone, then restarted both devices, but it didn't help.

When the computer restarts and the VPN is in the startup applications and the phone doesn't have the VPN on, the connection fails. But when I turn off the VPN on the computer, the phone connects, and when I turn the VPN back on the computer, the connection remains. However, if I turn on the VPN on the phone, the connection immediately breaks. So, when the connection is established between the phone links on both devices and neither has the VPN on, I can then turn on the VPN on the computer and the connection still remains.

    • Working Windows 11 PC,F-Secure 25.3←—→Android 15 mobile,F-Secure 25.3 (Phone Link)
    • 1. VPN killswitch option must be off on both side
    • 2. VPN option "allow local services" must be on at mobile
    • 3. "LInk to windows" app must be allowed to bypass VPN at the mobile side
    • " Phone Link program in windows
    • Why you can't just add it to VPN whitelists ?
    • Because it’s a UWP app: (Universal Windows Program)
    • It doesn't have a fixed .exe path.
    • F-Secure (and many VPNs/firewalls) can't whitelist it the same way as traditional .exe apps.
    • ✅ Workaround:
    • Since whitelisting Phone Link isn’t possible via .exe, the better route is to:
    • Allow local network traffic in the VPN (if available).
    • Or disable VPN temporarily on one device.
    • "
    • 4. Both devices must in the same wifi and and among trusted
    • 5. Initial connection(pairing) may be made by bluetooth
    • Good Luck !!

Thank you for your responses. The question was accidentally sent twice as something else came up in between.

Okay,a little bit of tricky situation ,maybe the F-Secure developers find a more usability way to accomplish this, should not be like this..

I add some information to my previous comment…

Thank you for your responses. I noticed that I accidentally sent my question twice as I got busy with other tasks in between. Apologies for that.
