Yle no longer working - but...

I am no longer able to access most of Yle Areena using the Freedome VPN. This has happened in the past couple years a couple times - and F-Secure foxed the situation. Possibly the finnish server has again been blacklisted?

I see that sometimes a response given here is to link to an article from 2018:https://yle.fi/aihe/artikkeli/2018/03/01/yle-varmistaa-tekijanoikeussopimusten-noudattamista-areenassa

... which says yle is going after vpn's. However that was 5 years ago and while many VPN's were blocked - Freedome has worked fairly consistently since then. As you can see, the same issue came up in January 2021:

It was fixed.

This seems to be the same problem as is currently happening. Will (and when will) it be fixed?

Many thanks,

    Hello @Erick

    Thank you for your post.

Streaming services may prevent access to F-Secure Freedome VPN and other VPN services to enforce their content distribution rights and copyright agreements with content owners. F-Secure Freedome VPN works by redirecting your internet traffic through its servers and disguising your IP address to appear as though you are browsing the internet from a different location.

When someone uses F-Secure Freedome VPN to access a streaming service, they can bypass the geographic restrictions and appear to be accessing the service from a different location. However, this can violate the content distribution rights and copyright agreements of the streaming service and its content owners.

To enforce their agreements, streaming services use various measures to detect and block VPN traffic, including F-Secure Freedome VPN. This may include monitoring IP addresses and other network traffic to identify VPN usage and blocking traffic from known VPN servers or IP ranges.

Despite providing privacy and security benefits, VPNs can also be used to circumvent geographic restrictions and infringe on content distribution rights. As a result, streaming services may block VPN traffic to protect their content and enforce their agreements with content owners.

You can read more about this at this link https://community.f-secure.com/vpn-en/kb/articles/8940-why-am-i-unable-to-access-yle-areena-areena-yle-fi-when-using-f-secure-freedome-vpn

A possible workaround to this issue is to turn off the VPN and then turn it back on to obtain a new IP address that is not blocked by the streaming service. Additionally, users can consider using the F-Secure Freedome VPN app to bypass the VPN on Windows and Android as described in the following links:

Thank you and have a good day.

Thank you @Firmy for the response. Unfortunately, as you said - it does not work.

Luckily however, we have found a different VPN company with whom it does work and have since switched to their service. This is a shame as we enjoyed the simplicity of Freedome, but it is as it is.

    HI there,

Can only confirm what Erik says above, it is shame that we now need to leave F-Secure services, I still have couple months left, but now searching for concurring VPN service working with YLE Areena, appearently there still are some which are working, so there must be work-around available no matter what F-Secure is saying !

Yes - I will be moving to another VPN service provider as well as of tomorrow, as it seems F-Secure is not willing to work out a solution on this. It is a shame, but if they want to just loose the customers there's nothing we as customers can do, other than to switch to another provider. Will not be looking back to F-Secure products after this, as their reliability is taking a big hit with this failure.
