Will ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ my MAC Address enhance the protection I receive from F-Secure's Freedome VPN?
BACKGROUND:
Some users prefer to hide the identity of their device behind a false MAC address in order to protect their privacy. One of the reasons some prefer a spoofed MAC address is because MAC addresses sent over public LAN or WLAN networks are usually unencrypted. So consequently, anyone on the network can then track which devices are registered in the network, read out their respective hardware addresses, and use them for illegal activities.
This is a controversy and a conversation I have run into from time to time. I do not believe spoofing my MAC Address will, in any way, enhance the protection I receive from F-Secure's Freedome VPN.
However ...
REQUEST AND QUESTION:
If I am wrong and spoofing or masking my MAC Address ๐๐๐๐ enhance the protection I receive from F-Secure's Freedome VPN on my laptop, please let me know.

Hi @Issues4Life
Typically, if someone else knowing your MAC address shouldnโt be much of a security threat. Itโs far less dangerous than someone knowing your public IP address, for instance.
If someone were to have your public IP address, you could be targeted by a wide variety of attacks. The most common attack would be a DDOS since it doesnโt take much to achieve. Or, if youโre unfortunate enough, you could be targeted by a more severe attack, which could escalate in the perpetrator gaining full remote access to your device and handle it in a broad variety of ways.
However, an attacker canโt do much by simply knowing your MAC address. Letโs say that it has the same level of threat as someone knowing your real name online. Masking your MAC address would only make sense if you want to protect yourself from other users on the same network.
When you use FREEDOME, it establishes a VPN connection between your device and F-Secure's servers. This means that, instead of using a direct connection between your device and the internet, all data traffic is routed through those servers.
