Issue:
Unable to install Browsing Protection by F-Secure browser extension on a Safari browser on a Mac computer.
Resolution:
Apple has introduced some security measures affecting all Safari extensions that are installed locally. This affects not only F-Secure's browsing protection extension, but also other Safari extensions. To solve these issues and enable the installation of the browser extension, check the following:
Scenario 1:
- Make sure that you are not using a remote connection and/or screen sharing
- Re-install the browsing protection safari extension
- When prompted by the Safari browser, click Trust
Scenario 2:
- Check in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility to remove or disable 3rd party accessibility software
- Re-install the browsing protection safari extension
- When prompted by the Safari browser, click Trust
Scenario 3:
- Check in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Full keyboard access to enable full keyboard access
- Re-install the browsing protection safari extension
- When prompted by the Safari browser, click Trust
If you have checked these scenarios, but none of them have helped, then start up or restart your Mac in Safe Mode by pressing and holding down the Shift key.
Safe Mode performs certain checks and can help to pinpoint the source of the issue.
