F-Secure ID Protection incorrectly alerting about a leaked social security number or national ID We have found out that a number of our ID Protection customers in Finland have received alerts that their personal information has been found in a data breach.
The alert informs that the customer's social security number (SSN) or national ID has been exposed in the breach.
With this message, we want to clarify that the leaked information was incorrectly categorized in the original data as SSN, and this leaked information was in fact a company VAT identification number, which in Finland is called a Business ID. The company VAT numbers, or Business IDs, are public information and readily accessible online. The incorrect categorization is now being rectified.
