We had a small mishap during the release, so some of you might have received this without any visible update notification.

    Hello,

Sorry for bothering you with my comment. Lately, I've started noticing some things that I can't connect to fs protection, but there's nothing else to connect with. I also received 25.11 beta 1 silently like about 13 hours before the announcement, and everything was fine (as I think) - I used the system for about ten hours and turned it off. Then turning it on like "ten hours" later and immediately ran into a strange VPN glitch. I tried to look at some things and that's how I found out I'd received a silent upgrade many hours earlier. I don’t remember such oddities before, but since that moment - for how many days now - something like that with relative frequency has been happening.

The point is this: I can't repeat or understand the steps to achieve these effects specifically. I also can't figure out if "regular" things and VPN things are somehow related.

as a very random thought - I have a feeling that this is somehow related to getting a reputation (or using a reputation cache). Or recent BP addon updates. Were there any changes in these areas that could have affected any of the following and therefore been a problem:

    • I do use Family Protection with strict profile; some 'unknown/unrated/uncategorized' pages (but kind of 'specific' ones) are really long to be loaded and opened (when are switched to be 'available' to open withing its current design of unknown reputations). But even then can be different errors within browser (generic errors, but not always the same ones) with inability to load page or just broken layout in website. However, I can open these websites during 'trouble' time with another browser (without addon or even with addon) and all is fine. This is reoccurring state for some certain examples and I do able to repeat it (basically); also, this is the oldest strange thing of 'recent' ones.
    • with VPN - I've had random troubles, timeouts and other things; two times like: says connected, but weren't active. Like no network there at all. Randomly or not while I was running fsdiag, the situation seems to have been sorted both times.
    • with VPN - much more random difficulties including some DNS generic errors in browser or strange impact like not loading only 'certain' pages while generally working good everywhere.

I just do not know what to report exactly.. so.. I did not report anything, but decided to mention it here. However, maybe if I will be able to gather a bit of clarity about producing them - I will report it via normal channels.

    Thanks!

If you are having strange network related problems, try going into Settings / Device Protection and turn off "Use firewall sensor" option. It does not have immediate impact, best option would be to reboot after changing this setting, but usually waiting about 5 minutes should make it effective. We have had some customers with network issues that have been resolved by this setting and it's worth trying first to eliminate that as a cause.

Have there been no beta updates since Nov 24th?

25.11 beta 3 is the latest release on my devices.

if things are alright, I would expect some fresh beta build in (very?) early January.

// from a beta test perspective (though), there have already been quite many changes and additions in recent beta builds that could keep users busy. Especially considering the changes to ID Monitoring (which, :( for example, I'm not paying attention to right now).

and have a more or less stable state for the public version during a break.

Thank you, Ukko, I'm not part of the beta team, so this is the tread I use to keep track and monitor the betas (and public releases) :)

Perhaps the day will come in year 2026 when all F-Secure consumer products on all supported platforms(Win,Mac,Android,iOS) will have a so-called stable software version.

@TVC15, but you really should be part of the beta team. :)

    While it still exists…

// as I see it, everything they need is what might be of interest to you. You have enthusiasm, attention to detail, the ability to communicate your thoughts and ideas effectively, and (perhaps more importantly) a near-fleet of devices (both mobile and desktop/laptop) - including the latest operating systems like Windows 11 (which is probably a priority for them right now, anyway).

Beyond that, there are essentially no strict limitations (you can also experiment with other software along the way or use just one device for beta testing). Still you get beta-quality cyber security software that significantly surpasses the stable quality of many competitors. :)

It's impossible not to find bugs, because even if everything is already pretty decent - there are always "old" ones, which may be known to them - but are unfixed and may be waiting for more people to find them (to increase their priority to finally fix it). As far as I can tell from public information and discussions on community pages, providing feedback is the only "request" for a beta tester. Given your relatively fresh perspective on F-Secure's approach and the ability to compare it with others, this task is quite easy. By the way, as well as JOnes. Directing the attitude and approach to implementation and needs even closer to the "initial" stages. Or checking the real needs of cases. For instance, it seems to me (for some reason) that the beta VPN is somehow more stable than what is available later. But I, for example, do not use a VPN as such; and there are no needs for me unlike for the most of the users - so, I'm just trying to 'emulate' potential cases, which doesn't seem to be enough to understand how well it works.

I am not sure how packed their current beta users pool (or if they're accepting new ones), but they certainly always welcome enthusiasts. Any help will help improve the final product.

// I think they have a pretty active "What's New" section (meaning updates come out regularly and on time now). For a stable version monitoring (Windows // macOS); Of course, releases are often released in stages, but sometimes there is already information about the transition of a beta build to a stable state before the "public announcement".
