IPad Freedome

Hi, I just purchased 12 months of F-Secure Freedome for my IPad. However, I was under the impression that the application used OpenVpn not IPSec. And given the recent revelations in the news about VPNs, I’m a little worried about how secure this method is. Can you elaborate more on why you’re not using OpenVpn and how secure IPSec is? Best, Denise

    Hello Denise,

IPSec is indeed what is currently implemented on iOS and it is securely implemented.

Both OpenVpn and IPSec offer high security. We use for instance OpenVpn with Android as it is available there.

  • Thanks for your response.

Just to clarify your response; how can you not implement OpenVPN on IOS? I’m currently using OpenVPN (OpenVPN Connect) on IOS through a different VPN provider using a config generator. Is it not possible to utilise the same technology in your Freedome IOS application? If so, do you intend to implement this in future?

    Best,

    Denise

There are OpenVpn implementations for iOS as well but those are not built.

We therefore decided to use IPSec for this platform.

There are no plan to change technology in the immediate future for iOS.
