Advise re configuration
Please advise re:
1. Does the F-secure security package automatically include protection against spyware and malware. Can I/should I therefore turn off Windows Defender to avoid duplication and software clashes?
2. Under what circumstances should I turn on the compatibility mode with reduced security in the Deepguard section of F-Secure software?

Yes, F-Secure does provide spyware and malware protection. I believe the early versions of Windows Defender will run alongside FS, but certainly with Windows 8/8.1 (and possibly 7), WD is automatically disabled when installing F-Secure. You can, however, install MalwareBytes, which is compatible with FS, in either the Free or Pro versions,. and that will give you an additional line of protection.

Under normal circumstances, you should leave Compatibility Mode off. I have never personally had reason to turn it on, but according to the Help file:For maximum protection, DeepGuard temporarily modifies running programs. Some programs check that they are not corrupted or modified and may not be compatible with this feature. For example, online games with anti-cheating tools check that they have not been modified in any way when they are run. In these cases, you can turn on the compatibility mode.
Hope that helps, and welcome to the forum!
