Firewall

After installing F-Secure on my PC (running Vista Ultimate) I have started getting messages telling me my computer is unprotected and that the Firewall is off.  I have gone into settings and cannot now connect to Windows Security to turn the firewall on.  Any advice?

Do you have any security software installed, other than F-Secure?

Do you get a message saying: "Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings"?

 

That could mean it's a problem with the Windows Firewall and you could try restore its settings.

It could also be caused by a virus/malware, so I suggest you first scan your entire PC.

Then scan with http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/

Then download and scan with http://www.malwarebytes.org/free/  (this product scans for malware types that anti-virus products usually don't)

 

And read the suggestion from Microsoft Community:

You could also try the Windows utility SFC(System File Checker) to repair missing or corrupted Windows system files:

Hi EVP,

 

You have to enable it via Windows Control Panel Firewall settings. Make sure the firewall is enable. And block all incoming rules. For both Public and Private settings.

The on/off switch for F-Secure setting "Firewall" is the same thing as Windows Control Panel Firewall on/off.

If the Windows Firewall won't turn on, it's an internal problem with the Windows Firewall, or the problem may be caused by malware. See my previous post for more information.

Many thanks for your advice.  I have followed your instructions  but access to the Security Center is still denied (unidentified problem).  Unfortunately I do not have the software to reinstall the programme.

 

Any further suggestions?

Are you logged on as Administrator when trying to access Security Center?

Also, did Malwarebytes or MSE find anything?
