Banking protection remains active after browser shut down

I noticed that, apparently after the latest update, the banking protection signified by the green border will no longer shut down by itself as it used to do when I leave the banking website, or even if I completely close out the browser. It remains up and bordering my desktop screen. I have to manually end the banking protection session. What did they do to this function in the latest update that could have caused this?

    Hi @wvafaninsc

I have Total installed on 3 Windows devices that I'll check later on when I have time.

But maybe until then you can confirm your version of Windows, and that you're on F-Secure v25.6 (6.4.190.0) by ticking the About option from the system tray icon.

Edit: So I went to my US bank site on the 3 PC's, 2 are Windows 11 laptops and one is Windows 10 desktop. I used Chrome and Edge on all of them, including Firefox on 2 of them.

After I logged in and was on the main page, I logged out then hit the browser home button and the Banking Protection ended (green frame ended). I wasn't using the VPN so I'm not sure what to think.

Were you using a VPN, what browser are you using, were there any other updates, even a extension update? Have you tried another browser or even try a device restart?

Maybe one of those questions asked will help as you go through them, otherwise post back :)

I am using Edge: Version 138.0.3351.95 (Official build) (64-bit)

    Windows 11 Home Version 24H2.

I have restarted this PC many times since this started happening.

As far as what version of F secure I have, I cannot find the About on this. There is no F secure icon that appears in my tray, even when it is active and I even have checked the hidden icons area. I have opened the security suite as well and cannot find details about F secure.

    Hello again,

Thank you for posting back. Did you confirm in the Taskbar Settings that F-Secure was toggled on in the "Other system tray icons" settings? I'm on Windows 11 24H2 as well with my two laptops, one with Home and one with Pro. Edge is up to date v. 138.0.3351.95.

Otherwise, you can do a Windows search for F Secure and it will give you the option to pin it to the taskbar. That will then give you the right click options for About and to run a manual Update etc. The other path to find About is to tick on the Question mark icon at the top of the UI.

I take it you don't have another supported browser (Chrome or Firefox) you can try to see if the banking windows closes once you leave the site and go the Home screen? Is there the option at the top of the webpage in the middle to close the Banking Protection by ticking the drop down tab?

Were you using a previous AV that may have not been totally uninstalled, or running one side by side with F-Secure, or even a previous AV's, Safe Money etc. browser banking extension that may be enabled and not uninstalled?

I know I'm asking more questions than answers as to "do this, and it will take care of it" solutions, but this is a new issue that hasn't been reported a lot recently, so without the Mods here asking for a log file to possibly see what's causing the issue, is the best I have.

Unless a more advanced member here has some other thoughts, I would contact the off forum support team, to see what they have to say, as the Mods here on the English forum seem to be on vacation.

And if you wanted, you could uninstall F-Secure using the Uninstall tool if needed, reinstall and see if that helps correct it. If your using the password Vault, I would back up your vault to your desktop to reimport them, or if F-Secure is being used on another device, can be synced to its vault if that has been set up.
