vpn dies sometimes?

i noticed (since nov 2024) that a few times a day my vpn connection dies, and several seconds later it comes back up. why are these outages happening?

i have one application (not a browser) that i do not want affected by these outages, so tried adding a vpn bypass for it. why is it unable to connect if i start it while vpn is turned on?

More Specific data would be usefull to clarify your issue: Device,Versions,etc..Are those outages noticeable without VPN on?. What VPN-gw/vpn protocol

What application(if public) is unable to start/work while vpn is on ?

I use a pc with Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100

No network outages with vpn off.

The application is a gateway to a stock broker. If it is selected for vpn bypass, then it starts but cannot connect while vpn is on, but continues to work if already connected when vpn is turned off. It works ok if not selected for vpn bypass.

I'll send you screenshots by private message.

Thank you. If the application has been bypassed by the VPN and it does not work when the VPN is active, it is likely that some of the components it uses still need to be bypassed. It is probably best to run the support tool while the error is active and wait for a moderator to send you a private message so that the situation can be taken into closer inspection.

    Hello @whiskerubs

    Thank you for your question.

I just wanted to clarify: when the VPN is connected, does the issue affect only the application in question, or does it impact the internet connection for the entire computer? Have you tested whether this behavior is limited to the specific app or extends system-wide? And how often is this happening?

Could you please share the name and version of the application you’re experiencing this with? Additionally, it would be helpful to know the version of the F-Secure app currently installed.

    Thank you for your assistance.

i'm using f-secure v19.8, and there are 2 separate issues:

    1. with vpn on, several times a day, for several seconds each time, my internet connection is dead. after noticing several such outages, i made a script to check what is happening, and ran it next time i noticed an outage. it showed that ping and curl commands fail. then as soon as i switched vpn off and re-ran the script, a couple of seconds later, ping and curl worked fine. then i switched vpn back on, and ping and curl slowly started working and a windows notification popped up that vpn was connected.
    2. to make my interactive brokers gateway v10.30 app (top result when i google it, free download) immune to the outages, i selected it for vpn bypass, but then if vpn is on and internet working, the gateway will not connect because it sees no internet. to answer your question, i selected microsoft edge for vpn bypass, and it did not experience this problem.

    • Ok,Vpn and Internet work normally OK when you do NOT use IB ,bypassing MS-edge from VPN with IB also resolves the problem.IT must be the browser(chrome ?) and IB together which cause the problem ??

i normally never use edge browser, only tried it to test functioning of vpn bypass to answer question raised here (vpn prevents ib gateway from connecting when it is on and gateway is selected for bypass, but not otherwise). i don't use ib on weekends but still experience internet outages with vpn on, which are cured immediately by turning vpn off.

OK,You are having F-Secure VPN gw:s outages in Australia and Singapore in EVERY application, turning off VPN resolves the issue, agree ? @Firmy Can you verify if there's any issues in those ?

yes. every application sees no internet during the outages, and this is cured by switching vpn off.

or it cures itself after several seconds.
