Critical: F-Secure is not scanning all files on macOS

I am wondering if users are aware of the fact that F-Secure is not scanning all files on macOS leaving users unprotected in certain situations.

I use v19.10 and sync files with a Swiss cloud sync tool which is working similarly to Dropbox. When files are synced, those are not scanned for viruses during creation nor opening. Tested with Eicar I am able to open the file without any detection.
A support ticket was closed with the statement that the cloud-sync tool is not following Apple practices (probably setting quarantine flag?). However, in my opinion an antivirus should not rely on the correct software implementation but rather trigger independent mechanisms to ensure incorrect handling is scanned as well, not? Otherwise, why should I install an independent antivirus?

    Hello @Beeree

Welcome to the F-Secure Community. Thank you for your post.

We have an open ticket regarding this issue, and our team is currently conducting general checks on the software for improvement.

Additionally, we’ve been in contact with the vendor, who has acknowledged the issue. They mentioned that their solution includes built-in anti-virus protection, reducing the risk of infection via the cloud syncing tool. If you have further questions about the software’s anti-virus functionality (such as why EICAR wasn’t detected), we recommend reaching out to the vendor directly.

You can also scan the file or folder manually. For more information, check out: Running a virus scan manually.

Thank you, and have a lovely day.

    Hi @Firmy

Thanks, I will wait until there are news regarding updated protection from F-Secure to address the issue.

Regarding the cloud storage tool: No malware scan is included as re-confirmed again from their support.

So my issue is purely related to F-Secue as a virus scanner locally on the endpoint.

A manual file scan is always possible (although I have not tested if the file is detected by an on-demand scan). However, with a cloud sync tool not very confortable to scan always everyting and also not very innovative with F-Secure (no context menu to scan, no functionality for a scheduled scan).

    Hello @Beeree

    Thank you for your reply.

Infomaniak has informed us that they have built-in antivirus protection for their cloud storage. If you would like to discuss this further with their support team, the ticket number is #INK-EDB-17384-327.

From our side, we will continue to perform additional checks with the vendor's software to ensure everything is functioning properly.

Thank you again, and we wish you a wonderful day ahead.
