"Green frame" for banking protection missing

Hello,

Since about two weeks I am no longer getting the green frame when I am accessing a banking site.
Both the browser (Firefox 132.0.2, but it happened with earlier versions, too ) and the extension (5.7.21) are up to date.

I have already tried the steps as advised in this link (in Finnish) without effect.
I have then uninstalled and re-installed the extension. No effect either, green frame still missing.

The only change is that now the F-Secure application keeps nagging me to set up the browser extension, then sends me to the Mozilla extension page, where of course the "Add to Firefox" button is not available as the extension is already installed and set up.

Is this an issue of the banking protection actually not working, or "just" a problem with the GUI (i.e. the lacking display of the green frame?)
How to fix this?
(Please do not advise to uninstall/re-install the whole F-Secure application...)

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello @hagen37

    Thank you for your post.

To help you solve the problem we ask that you check if the green pop-up appears on other banks' websites. If so, please send us a link to the bank's website where the pop-up does not appear. We will be able to check what rating the URL currently has in our system. It is likely that the bank has made changes to the URL. In this situation it may be necessary to update the rating in our database.

Just to be sure, please check that the green pop-up appears for the URL in the Microsoft Edge browser with the extension from F-Secure installed.

If the green pop-up does not appear on other bank sites it will be necessary to collect diagnostic data from our program. If so, we will send you a private message in our forum with instructions on how to collect diagnostic data.

Please tell us which version of F-Secure you are currently using on your device.

We will be waiting for your feedback on the current situation.

    Best regards.

    Hello @PawełP,

    thanks for the prompt reply.

we ask that you check if the green pop-up appears on other banks' websites.

I have tried these, for all of which (and others) the green frame worked before, but now does not appear any more:
    https://www.op.fi/
    https://www.s-pankki.fi/
    https://www.handelsbanken.fi/

All of these are major banks in Finland, so it would be very surprising if they have now been taken off the rating list when they were on it before. I also believe they have had these URLs for a long time.

please check that the green pop-up appears for the URL in the Microsoft Edge browser with the extension from F-Secure installed.

Sorry, I don't have Edge installed. I tried Brave and do not get a green frame there either (but I am not sure if the F-Secure extension there is up to date.)

Please tell us which version of F-Secure you are currently using on your device.

    F-Secure: Version: 19.4
    Firefox extension: 5.7.21
    Firefox browser: 132.0.2

    Cheers,

    Hello,

    Sorry for the discussion.

    F-Secure: Version: 19.4

Relatively old build (was released in April of this year; and then 19.5, released June 2024; and most recently 19.8). Is this due to the fact that you have Windows 8.1, for example (since starting from 19.5 this OS was no longer supported)? Or maybe something like a 32bit system. Or is the F-Secure solution simply provided through an ISP or some other local partner?

Anyway, I just thought that such a difference as a relatively old build of the F-Secure solution and practically the latest available version of the browser extension (it may already be newer than 5.7.21, in the last couple of days) can create similar effects and problems of the type described.

Although I don’t know how to explain its appearance only about two weeks ago. For example, browser extension 5.7.21 dated back to 09.09.2024. Maybe Microsoft Edge was uninstalled two weeks ago; or was it never in the system (was disabled)? Maybe this can also add some incompatibilities. Just as a random thing - I remember a discussion at the end of April where the user could not open the Main UI of the application due to not using Microsoft Edge (disabled or blocked). After he reactivated Microsoft Edge on the system, the problem disappeared. Although I think there could be something else going on around all the circumstances.

But, basically, I think you could try old extension for Firefox. It is available in their store as an addon version history: Browsing Protection by F-Secure version history - 18 versions – Add-ons for Firefox (en-GB)

I am not sure if it is actually working and allowed. But you can try to grab some old addon from there and see if it can do anything (by manual installing it instead of a recent/latest one). If not and still trouble there, then maybe some internal changes (on the part of the F-Secure application for the network module) caused such a nuisance.

Surely the official representatives will recommend something more sensible. I probably shouldn't have written this comment, but oh well.
