We are going to get A new laptop because we cannot anymore update Windows 11 to our old laptop where is Windows 10. The old laptop is the device where we have install our first F-secure Total. We have 5 license and those all is in using.

Guestion:

When we have get A new laptop I think we are updating F-secure As follows:

  • 1. I release A device license from one device that is not using just nowadays
  • 2. I install the licence to the new Windows 11 laptop
  • 3. I release licence from the old Windows 10 laptop after I have making all needing data transfer to new laptop
  • 4. And now I install the license back on the device that is not using just nowadays

Is it so easy ? Or is this my plan wrong planning?

    Hello,

Is it so easy ? Or is this my plan wrong planning?

Yes, it is so easy. Although it may even be a little complicated in your scenario. But perhaps smoother and hassle-free.

I would do this - I would start the installation on a new device (Windows 11 laptop) - at the moment when the installer reported that all licenses were already taken - I would be asked to release one (in order to reuse). I would take advantage of this. It used to be that way and I think it's still available. If you cannot download the installer (in My F-Secure portal) due to all the licenses already in use, then you can probably click the option to install on a computer other than this one. Then the license will not be added to the name of the installation file and you will be required to login in during installation. Then as described with license reuse functionality.

Then, same as with your scenario - when you release the license on Windows 10 (old laptop), you will need to reuse it on the device where you released it for installation on a new Windows 11 laptop. If the 'not-using-just-nowadays' device was not used, then when you turn it on for the first time, you will simply need to log in (as most likely there will be a notification that the license is not assigned or the subscription is expired).
