Hello,
I think that not much attention is paid to scams (in different formats) on mobile platforms during cyber help week. Referring directly to the operating system infrastructure.
Android and Google Play Market; and iOS in general. For example, when there was a Windows Phone 8 (8.1, 10) platform - AV as such was not required and everything was considered relatively reliable, but looking at the app store - I constantly encountered very strange applications, dubious apps and simply not quite with clear intentions. I tried to find out from F-Secure Labs about this at the time.
I couldn't find the answers now, but the general advice was to just be vigilant, I think. But, let's say, it wasn't entirely clear to me how to distinguish (and in general what an application with those permissions can do to my device to harm) a safe application from a scam application, if it is not something known. And then, later, there were "attempts to be similar" to known applications and the like. Many of them were removed from the app store, but not always very quickly.
I think it's the same with Android and iOS - just on a different scale and less noticeable (if still not fixed). Mentioned article "Discover the Top Types of Malware for 2023" with two malware description (of four) for Android. But I have not come across (by studying mentioned resources, articles, videos, KBs and so from this topic) any example-types or a general picture of scam applications on mobile operating systems. What are they, how to distinguish them, and so on. And if they are easy to identify - why do they still remain available to users (and do not disappear already at the early stages of moderation).
Thanks!
