VPN region assignment

So, I chose NW USA as my VPN region, but for about a week I have been getting Canadian news article prompts. I checked and my VPN was now Toronto, Canada. Then a few days later I was assigned to Mexico City, Mexico; both without choice of myself. I don't mind so much being subject to Canadian rules, regulations and laws, but I would not like to be connected to Mexico, thanks.

Has my PC been hacked, because I did not, myself, change these VPN settings? Or is this just a function of the VPN service that one's region surfs from place to place without a choice in the matter/location?🤣

The situation you described could have happened if you chose the "choose best location" option when starting the VPN.

In this situation, the location may automatically change. The "choose best location" option is available for Android, Windows and macOS.
