Serious Problem, Please Help: New Update "3.3.0" "Automatic WiFi Protection" is Dangerous?
Hi,
This problem has been bothering me all day and I haven't used FreedomE VPN App on my iPad because I've been so worried about this new update that includes "Automatic WiFi Protection"...π
Does "Automatic WiFi Protection" mean that the FreedomE VPN App on my iPad is running in the background without me opening the FreedomE VPN App and turning it on?
This is my worry:
I don't want my IP address to be changed by the FreedomE VPN App because for some websites my account on these websites is tied to my real and unaltered IP address from my ISP and so I'll be banned by these websites if FreedomE VPN App is running constantly and giving them an IP address that has been changed by the FreedomE VPN App...
Or another example is that I'll open the Netflix App on my iPad and because FreedomE VPN App is running constantly in the background and giving out a different IP address to my real IP address from my ISP, Netflix will think I'm from another country when I do not want this at all. I just want to open the Netflix App and be using my real IP address from my ISP and not an IP address that has been changed by the FreedomE VPN App.
Any help would be much appreciated! πͺ

Hello @Hopeful_Future,
The new, much requested "Automatic WiFi Protection" feature in our latest FREEDOME client on iOS doesn't do anything if you haven't got FREEDOME turned ON. When FREEDOME is OFF, it is really OFF, and so it won't protect your network traffic or change what your IP address looks like to the web sites etc. It behaves the same way on your iPhone and iPad.
When you've got FREEDOME turned ON, your traffic will flow through a gateway server at the virtual location you've selected to use. If you have for example selected to use London as your location, your network traffic will be routed through one of our servers in London, and the web sites etc. will see our gateway IP address in London instead of your own IP address.
Now, if you turn on the "Automatic WiFi Protection" feature and you select for example your own home WiFi as trusted, FREEDOME will not route your traffic through the selected virtual location when you're connected to that home WiFi. Not even when FREEDOME is turned ON. This way you can keep FREEDOME always ON, even when you don't want to use FREEDOME when you're connected to your home WiFi.
If you then decide to go to have a cup of tea in the nearby cafΓ©, and your iPhone or iPad connects automatically to their WiFi there (assuming you've been there before and you've chosen to use that WiFi!), FREEDOME will turn automatically ON and secure your network traffic there as you haven't defined that public WiFi as trusted.
Another example: You come home from work and your iPhone or iPad has been connected to mobile data through your operator while you've cycled through the town. You have kept FREEDOME turned ON so that your network traffic will be secured. Once you come home and your phone or pad automatically then switches from the mobile data to your WiFi, FREEDOME detects the network as trusted and will not route your traffic through our gateways.
Hopefully this clarifies how the Automatic WiFi Protection feature works :)

Your reply is much appreciated Tapsa!
I now understand that FreedomE VPN App on my iPad will not turn on and will not change my real IP address to another IP address unless I have turned the FreedomE VPN App ON and set it to "ON" inside the FreedomE VPN App.
I haven't used the FreedomE VPN App much since the new "Automatic WiFi Protection" update was released as I was very worried that it was changing my real IP address without being turned on.
However, I'm still confused on the "Automatic WiFi Protection" and how it effects me? Sorry to be asking questions, but I just want to be sure I understand the new feature and how it works...π₯
