    Release 17.9 beta 1 (build 34340)

    macOS Big Sur support

This release brings initial support for macOS Big Sur. From now on, real-time protection and DeepGuard (a.k.a. XFENCE) do not use kernel extensions to operate.

Instead, these features use new EndpointSecurity APIs provided by Apple as the replacement for kernel extensions. These APIs are in use by FS Protection on macOS Catalina 10.15.5 and higher (Big Sur included). FS Protection is still relying on kernel extensions for real-time protection and DeepGuard when running on lower versions of macOS.

We encourage to file feedbacks in case of any issues that you run into while using this new FS Protection release. Various use-case scenarios have been taken into account but there is still a possibility of special use-cases that could affect performance and overall functionality of real-time protection and DeepGuard. Please let us know by filing a feedback. Your feedback would be of utmost importance to us.

    DeepGuard change log

    • This release includes a lot of DeepGuard improvements, bug fixes and new functionality. Some of the changes are listed below.
    • Block prompt for DeepGuard introduced. It is now possible to override the "deny" decision made by DeepGuard without inspecting the whole ruleset.
    • DeepGuard simple dialog has been redesigned. Simple dialog was redesigned to make it more user friendly and clear in terms of decision making.
    • DeepGuard advanced dialog layout has been improved (truncated phrases and bad UI layout fixed for some languages)
    • Rule importing flow via DeepGuard Configuration app (rule editor) has been improved
    • Configuration app authorization flow has been refactored to improve stability of rule modification
    • Other general improvements to look&feel and stability

    Other changes

    • Browser extensions improved behavior to respect the Content Filter state
    • Native uninstaller introduced. The uninstaller has been reworked to ensure Big Sur support and better user experience
    • A major number of other improvements & bugfixes throughout the codebase

If you experience any issues, please run the "Support Tool" in the Applications -> "fs protection" folder and submit a bug report with the file created to allow us to investigate the issue. For issues related to Browsing protection and Parental control, remember to include any URLs that reproduce the problem in your bug report. You may also submit false positives and uncategorized web pages directly to F-Secure Labs using https://www.f-secure.com/en/web/labs_global/submit-a-sample#sample-url

As always, we welcome any feedback via the community pages, and reports of any issues found via https://beta.f-secure.com

    Release 17.9 beta 2 (build 34457)

We are pleased to announce a new release of FS Protection for Mac. Update is available for download from My FS Protection and delivery to existing installations starts today.

This release contain several bug fixes and improvements. Here are some of the more notable fixes:

    DeepGuard

    • Fixes an issue where in DeepGuard would freeze for 1 minute if user did not respond to a DeepGuard prompt within 7 seconds
    • Several UI improvements
    • Known issue: when manually creating a new DeepGuard rule without specifying a parent process, DeepGuard will default to a parent name of "/" and the policy will have no effect. Workaround: specify full path to app executable (e.g. Application.app/Contents/MacOS/Application) and check "Any parent". This will be fixed in the next beta release.

    Family Rules

    • UI improvements for many non-English languages of the Family Rules tab of the main window

    Anti-virus

    • Improved performance and reliability for EndpointSecurity-based systems (macOS 10.15.5 and higher)

If you experience any issues, please run the "Support Tool" in the Applications -> "fs protection" folder and submit a bug report with the file created to allow us to investigate the issue. Hi ArthurVal,

Is it possible that a wrong installer was put on the 'My Fs Protection'? Because once I downloaded and installed it, i was informed the installer is "F-Secure Anti-Virus" instead of "fs protection for Mac".

    Best regards.

Hi @66f2e490 - indeed you're right, there was a mixup of installer packages. Really appreciate you bringing this to our attention so we could deal with it quickly. The installer has now been updated with the correct one. Thank you and our apologies for the inconvenience!
