Does Freedome work?

Been using Freedom & Antivirus package for around a year now. Whilst the software is nice to use, doesn't slow PC down, and I haven't been affected by any viruses in this time, I'm left wondering if the privacy protection actually works. For example I was browsing vacations to Greece. Then within minutes adverts for Greece holidays are all over my twitter feed and other webpages. I'm sure this is related to cookies, but shouldn't the software block all this?
