Add an “Other / General” category for Feature Requests

At present, some feature requests do not fit naturally into any of the available categories in the Feature Requests section. This may lead users to select an unrelated category simply because there is no suitable alternative.

An “Other / General” category for Feature Requests would:

  • make it easier to submit feature requests that do not fit into the existing categories;
  • reduce incorrectly categorised feature requests;
  • improve the overall organisation and usability of the Feature Requests section;
  • help moderators identify recurring topics that may later justify a dedicated category.

Please consider adding “Other / General” as an available category when submitting a new feature request.

    Hello,

    Sounds as something good, but I can't figure out what part of the Community this applies to?

    I mean, title says ""Add an “Other Questions” category to the Community Feature request"", but I am not sure if you can choose a category when creating a feature request. Or can you?

    And subject of topic itself says more about typical Community boards/categories stuff. So, where you can choose where to create your thread. But if so - there is "General" board/category: https://community.f-secure.com/en/categories/general

    with two general boards/categories ("General Discussions" and "News and Feedback"):

    https://community.f-secure.com/en/categories/general-discussion

    https://community.f-secure.com/en/categories/Feedback

    which are more generic than those in your proposal. But they likely have the described point, in particular.

    However, these parts of the community likely have a more lenient access control and are relatively susceptible to spam topics and spam replies, as well as other "petty" 'swindle' schemes. Rather than being a real place for general discussions and 'other questions' topics.

    Hello @Ukko

    Thanks — your point is valid, and I can see why the original wording was ambiguous.

    I meant specifically the categories available within the Feature Requests section, not the general Community discussion categories.

    The idea is simply to add an “Other / General” category for feature requests that do not fit naturally into any of the existing Feature Request categories. This would avoid having to place such suggestions under an unrelated category.

    I’ll also adjust the wording/title to make that scope clearer.

    Yes, that would be helpful.

    But I think you can't to choose 'any' category for Feature Request now. I mean, all of feature request topics are kind of 'uncategorized'.

    You can't filter them by product or operating system or something like that.

    It was previously possible with old Community Engine (before changing to Vanilla Forums or whatever is in use now) for some level. I do not remember if choosing a product or platform was a requirement for creating a feature request. But it probably was. Or just required tags.

    Still there were some unpinned feature requests (even without 'votes' or the ability to vote) - as they had been moved from the general categories (where they were created) to the feature request board.

    However, expanding the scope of Feature Requests board may be a good move.
