With OS Tahoe, external HDD mounts only 5 minutes after startup.

Hello,

After updating my Mac to OS Tahoe, the external hard drive only appears on the desktop about 5 minutes after the system starts. I contacted Apple Support, and after some troubleshooting, they suggested that F-Secure might be the cause.

I ran some tests and excluded the external drive from the software's scans; after restarting, the drive was recognized immediately.

Could you please tell me how I can resolve this issue without excluding my external unit from the scans? Otherwise, F-Secure wouldn't be of much use to me...

Thank you very much.

    Hi @nayaril,

Thanks for the detailed report. After upgrading to macOS Tahoe, changes in disk handling can cause delays when F-Secure scans external drives during startup. Excluding the drive confirms the cause, but we agree this isn’t ideal. Please ensure you’re on the latest F-Secure version and let us know your macOS build, app version, and drive type so we can check if this is a known issue or under review.

    Thank you

Good morning, after a few reboots, the problem recurred, even after excluding the external drive from the scans.
    Here is what was requested:

    Tahoe 26.3
    F-Secure Version 26.1 (67683)

    Thank you very much.

    Hi @nayaril,

Thank you for the update and for providing the requested details. We understand how frustrating it is that the issue has recurred even after excluding your external drive from scans.

I've sent you an email and requested for some details so that our team will able to continue investigating to find a solution that allows your external drive to work normally without having to exclude it from scans.

    Thank you.

Hi everyone, after running some tests with the Apple community, we traced the issue back to the file system. I formatted the external hard drive as APFS and now it works perfectly. Thanks to all of you for helping me identify the problem.

    Hi,

thanks for letting us know! If you don't mind, I would be interested to hear what the problematic file system was - was it FAT/exFAT or something else?
