VPN only on Restart

I usually shut down my desktop computer at night. When starting up in the morning I do not get an internet connection. As far as I can see, this has to do with F-Secure establishing a VPN-connection. The progress symbol (the rotating arrow) circles endlessly.

The work-around solution is to restart the computer. After restart, F-secure establishes a VPN-connection without delay.

run Windows 11 on a Dell desktop..

    Hello @ThGut2

I just checked on my end, on a Microsoft Surface 5 Laptop running Windows 11 24H2, on a HP Laptop running Windows 11 24H2 and a Dell tower desktop running Windows 10, all of them connected (reconnected) after total shut downs and restarts.

From Task Manager or msconfig, is there a startup app you could disable to see if that is interfering the VPN connection after a shut down?

So far on my end, I have not been able to connect through the WireGuard protocol, at all. Have you tried switching to Hydra if you're using WireGuard? Also, try switching to a different default server rather than letting F-Secure decide that for you with, Best location if you're allowing that option.

Otherwise, I would get in touch with the direct support options, as the Mods and Employees here on the English forum have been MIA or on vacation for the last week or so.

    I'm running F-Secure Total v25.6 (6.4.190.0).

    Hello,

Just as a small addition to the excellent answer and recommendations above.

I usually shut down my desktop computer at night.

I am not sure if @TVC15 has something tweaked (to be different from default on all systems and from your set-up), but you can also try to see if Fast Startup is used in Windows 11 settings. When turning off (shutdown) is no longer quite switching off, but rather something closer to hibernation.

In general, if you also have version 25.6 and the problem is in Fast Startup (like if it is currently in use, and when turned off - it allows the system and VPN to start normally), then it would be nice to know about such a problem and maybe the F-Secure team can fix it.

In Windows 10, the option is accessible (at least) via Control Panel : Hardware and Sound : Power Options : System Settings (among other options).

The work-around solution is to restart the computer. After restart, F-secure establishes a VPN-connection without delay.

Also interesting to know, is this the only workaround? For example, to cancel "progress symbol (the rotating arrow) circles endlessly" attempt, and try to manually turn on VPN does not work? Or how long did you try to wait after starting the system? Although this would still not explain the presence of delay (and the absence upon reboot).

    Sorry and thanks.
