Device restart needed

Around June 24, 2025 my F-Secure began prompting me for Device Restart. Restarting the machine does absolutely nothing. After restarting, I get another dialog box telling me my computer is not protected and to restart. The "not protected" dialog box never goes away.
I've attempted to restart from the F-Secure dialog box and from the Pop-Up dialog. Neither option stops the issue from returning. I'm assuming my computer isn't protected.

Hello @IrritatedinTexas
Welcome to the F-Secure Community, and thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We’ve received similar reports from other users experiencing the same issue. After reviewing these cases, we’ve found that the problem may be caused by conflicting software installed alongside the F-Secure app.
To help us investigate further and assist you more effectively, please ensure that no conflicting software is installed on your device.
In the meantime, I’d be happy to look into this for you. Could you please generate an fsdiag file and share it with me via private message? I’ve sent you a PM where you can upload the file directly.
Thank you again, and I hope you have a lovely day.

"Conflicting software" means that two or more programs on your computer are interfering with each other — they are not working well together and may be causing errors, crashes, or performance issues.
This can happen when:
- Two programs try to use the same system resources (like ports, drivers, or background services).
- Two antivirus or firewall programs are running at the same time and blocking each other.
- A new program is incompatible with an older one already installed.
- VPN software conflicts with security suites, firewalls, or other networking tools.
For example, if you install two VPN programs or a VPN and a certain antivirus, they might both try to control the network settings and end up breaking your internet connection.
If you’re seeing an error mentioning “conflicting software,” it usually means you should:
- Identify which programs might be clashing.
- Try disabling or uninstalling one to see if the issue goes away.
- Check the software vendors’ support pages for known conflicts."
- When installing/updating new software, some security software in particular will notify you if conflicting software is found on the device. However, the findings are not necessarily 100% accurate and problems can arise.

Greetings.
I had this issue last night and I noticed that I had one uninstalled preview-type Windows update. As soon as I installed that, restarted and retried updating my F-Secure everything seems to be fine now.
I don't know if this is your issue, but this fixed it for me. Hope it helps you too.
