ID PROTECTION and turning off the built-in password manager in Chrome on Android This article explains how to turn off the built-in password manager in Chrome on your Android before taking Autofill into use in ID PROTECTION.
As most browsers have a built-in password manager, passwords may get saved to the browser automatically. To keep your passwords safe, the best practice is to avoid saving passwords in your browser.
Passwords saved in the browser may also cause issues with Autofill in ID PROTECTION, as the app is not able to identify the passwords properly for the service that is being logged into.
Before taking Autofill into use in ID PROTECTION, we therefore recommend the following:
- Turn off the built-in password manager in the browser that you use.
- Make sure that all the passwords stored in the built-in password manager are stored in Vault as well. Move your passwords to Vault, if you have not already done so.
- Once the built-in password manager is turned off, to make sure that none of your passwords remain in the built-in password manager, you may also have to clear the data in the browser.
In Chrome on Android, turn off this functionality as follows:
- On your device in the Chrome browser, go to Settings > Passwords.
- In Save passwords, slide the toggle to Off. This turns off the password manager in Chrome.
If you have passwords already stored in the password manager in your browser, you also need to clear the data from your device.
Important: Before clearing any data, make sure that the passwords stored in the built-in password manager are stored in Vault as well.
To clear the data in Chrome, do the following:
- On your device in the Chrome browser, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.
- Select Advanced, and check Saved passwords and Auto-fill form data on the list.
- Select Clear data.
Your password data has now been cleared in the Chrome browser. This ensures that Autofill in ID PROTECTION works as it should.
Note: These steps are only for the Chrome browser on Android and may be subject to change. Turning off the built-in password manager also applies to any browser that you may use on your Android device.
