What does that setting mean? It's located under Settings -> Protection in the Android app.
Great question, I don't think we have sufficiently addressed that feature,
"Indentify device type" feature uses metadata and a traffic profile from your connected devices and tries to identify them. The process can take some time as the connected device needs to first produce some analyzable data. Once they are identified it sets the device type icon for it accordingly. The technology should recognice quite a few devices, but we do not still have signatures for every possible device / device type.
Each device has a unique device ID, which is visible in the device details view. If some device is not getting correctly detected you can send us that ID and a description of your device (brand / model / what kind of a device it is), using the 'send feedback' feature of the app, we can take that information and implement detection signatures for them and helps us improve the service.
You can always also manually set the device type by choosing a different icon through your app.
The recognition capability of the system is expected to improve over time we have some activities in motion towards that end.

I have wondered thst myself, since it doesn't automatically set the device type icon for devices. So it seems that it only tries to guess the device from mac address and name information in order to better name the device on the list.
