The license period for a multi-device subscription for Freedome starts the moment you install and activate your Freedome subscription by entering the subscription code on the first device. For example, if your first installation of Freedome was January 1st, the license period ends January 1st the following year, assuming that you have a 1-year subscription. All your subsequent installs now follow the same license end date as this first installation. Previously, the license period for Freedome subscription was independent from each installation. This means that the license period started exactly from when you installed Freedome on a particular device. This is why you may see different license end dates from one installation to another. However, during this transitional period, when you perform a license transfer, the license end date is synchronized to the longest available license duration on all installations. As an example, if the license end dates on three installations were January 22nd, February 22nd and March 22nd, 2016, all installations (after a license transfer) will now expire on March 22nd 2016 assuming you have a 1-year subscription. Yes, it is possible to use Chromecast with Freedome on your devices. On Android, however, you need to set your Wi-Fi network as a trusted network in Freedome (Freedome > Settings > Trusted Wi-Fi networks) to allow Chromecast to connect to your Android device via the local network. You must use screen mirroring when you use Chromecast with Freedome. If you’re casting the content, what actually happens is that your device sends the link to the content to your Chromecast device, and the Chromecast device then downloads the content from that link. In this way, it totally bypasses your device with Freedome. Related information Can I connect to my local networked devices when F-Secure Freedome is turned on?

Due to certain limitations in operating systems, Freedome subscription allocation and configuration work differently whenever multiple user accounts are used on the same device. Below are the scenarios in which Freedome behaves differently: Windows The license is shared between all user accounts; one subscription covers all the user accounts. The settings are shared between all the user accounts; every user can change the settings and turn the product on or off. When a VPN connection is already active on a user account, this connection is taken into use by all other user accounts on the device. Mac The license cannot be shared between different user accounts; each user account requires its own subscription. The settings are not shared between user accounts; when a user account has Freedome open, all other user accounts will not be able to access Freedome until the first user closes Freedome or logs out. When a VPN connection is already active on a user account, this connection is taken into use by all other user accounts on the device. Android The license cannot be shared between different user accounts; each user account requires its own subscription. The settings are not shared between user accounts; all user accounts are independent of each other and the settings and configuration on one particular user account do not affect other users on the device. Each user account is isolated. VPN connection is not shared with other users on the device. Note: Apple iPhones and iPads are not affected as the iOS operating system does not support multiple user accounts. This article in other languages: Finnish, Swedish, German, French, Japanese.

Symptoms You are getting unstable Freedome VPN connection, or experiencing intermittent connection drops when connected to Freedome VPN on Huawei or Huawei Honor devices. Diagnosis Huawei's Emotion UI (EMUI) silently stops Freedome from running in the background in order to save battery or system resources on the device. Solution To prevent EMUI from stopping Freedome, you need to lock Freedome as a protected app in the EMUI settings. Note: Different EMUI versions may have different steps. In the EMUI device management settings under Power Saving, set the device power saving mode to Normal/Smart or Performance. Define the Freedome app as a Protected app through the EMUI settings (EMUI 3.x) or device management app (EMUI 4.0). Lock the Freedome app manually by going to the list of open apps and dragging the Freedome app down slightly in the list. Note: You must re-set the above steps after restarting the device as EMUI does not keep the setting over a restart of the device. Symptoms I have noticed that my Freedome VPN connection keeps dropping occasionally. Diagnosis If you are experiencing frequent drops with Freedome VPN connections, it is possible that you have an optimizer app that is running on your phone or tablet. Optimizer apps, which may be built into vendor-customized versions of Android devices, may silently stop F-Secure Freedome in the device. The optimizer tries to save device battery or other resources, and it considers Freedome as something which is not needed to run in the background. Solution You can typically configure an optimizer app to ignore certain apps. If your optimizer app allows this, you should add F-Secure Freedome to the list of allowed apps. Virtual location protects your privacy and lets you access your favorite streaming services when abroad. When you connect to the Internet, your device is assigned an address that identifies where you are. Freedome lets you select a virtual location which gives your device an address in the selected country. In automatic mode, Freedome uses a server that is closest to you for the best possible connection. Note: Your device will still know its real location, even without GPS, and apps may have permission to use it. Freedome currently provides the following virtual locations to choose from: Australia Belgium Canada (Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver) Denmark Finland France Germany Hong Kong Ireland Italy Japan Mexico Netherlands Norway Poland Singapore Spain Sweden Switzerland United Kingdom USA (East coast, Northwest, South, Southeast and West coast) More locations will be added in the near future. When you start using F-Secure Freedome, your network traffic is handled in a very different way than before. F-Secure Freedome is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) product which takes over all the network traffic, encrypts it and routes it through the virtual location you've selected to use or which has been automatically selected by the product. Without Freedome, all your network accesses go directly to wherever you're trying to go. As Freedome encrypts and routes all your network traffic to whatever virtual location you're using, the distance in the network will bring some overhead to the observed network speed. In principle, the further the virtual location is network-wise, the more time it takes to transfer the data through there. Note that the data needs to come back through the same route. If you reside in, for example Sweden and select to use our Australian virtual location, all your network traffic will go through Australia even if you'd be reading a Swedish news site. Sometimes the nearest virtual location may not be obvious, so it is worth trying different virtual locations if speed seems to be an issue. We're not imposing speed limitations on our users but if one of the virtual locations is used very actively by other users, it may slow down the network speed too. Note: This article applies only to the multi-device subscriptions of Freedome purchased directly from F-Secure or F-Secure official resellers. Subscriptions bought through app stores such as Google Play or Apple AppStore do not apply. This feature is currently available only for the Windows, Mac and Android versions. Each Freedome installation uses up one of the available licenses from your multi-device subscription. Uninstalling Freedome does not release the license from the device. This means that uninstalling and reinstalling Freedome on the same device will result in another license being consumed. In cases whereby you have used all your available licences when you are trying to install Freedome on a device, Freedome prompts for a license transfer when it detects that your subscription code has reached its maximum number of installations (used licenses). If you choose the Transfer option: Your Freedome subscription resets itself, and all licenses are released from all of your Freedome installations. The device you are installing Freedome on consumes the first license from your subscription. All your other devices with Freedome installed automatically obtain the available remaining licenses when they connect to Freedome servers. If you have Freedome installed on more devices than your current subscription allows, the last ones to connect to Freedome servers will not obtain a license and remain expired. If you choose the Cancel option: Freedome does not obtain a license from your subscription and remains expired on the device you are trying to install Freedome. Freedome continues to work on your other devices. If you intend to use Freedome on more devices than you current subscription allows, you can purchase a new subscription here: https://freedome.f-secure.com/ Related information How does the Freedome license period work? No. It is not possible to use multiple VPN products simultaneously, and Freedome is no exception. The reason for this is that the different VPN products will collide with each other trying to route the network traffic to different destinations. This may also cause the network traffic to leak outside of the VPN tunnel. On a side note, it is possible to have multiple VPN products installed on a device, as long as only one is turned on at one time.
