Microsoft introduces Edge on Chromium as a replacement for the Edge
On 15 January 2020, Microsoft is planning to release its new browser, Edge on Chromium, which will eventually replace the current desktop Edge browser.
The new browser is based on Chromium which is a free and open-source web browser project developed by Google. It will be available on Windows 7, 8, and 10, as well as on macOS.
When will F-Secure SAFE support Edge on Chromium?
For desktop computers, Browsing Protection by F-Secure is a browser extension (add-on) that is part of F-Secure SAFE. Browser Protection blocks harmful and suspicious websites to ensure the safety of your computer and personal data. It also adds a reputation rating icon before each link on search results page.
At present, we are working on an update to the Browsing Protection feature. We estimate that we can release the update at the end of January. When the update comes to you, Edge on Chromium automatically installs the extension on your computer. Once you open up the browser for the first time, it will ask you to switch the Browsing Protection extension on.
When the extension is switched on in your browser, Browsing Protection keeps your browsing and internet banking safe by supporting both encrypted (HTTPS) and non-encrypted (HTTP) traffic.
