FSMA Push Notification.

Hello,

Is there documentation for the "Push notification" feature in FSMA 10.00  / FSAV Client Security 12.10 beta?

Thanks in advance, Yours Sincerely:

Tamas Feher, Hungary.

Re: FSMA Push Notification.

Hello,

Please note that Server Push Notification feature is yet very experimental and we do not provide any information about ETA and scope.

To enable real-time notifcation protocol between hosts and Policy Manager Server the following steps are required:

* Define "clientNotificationsEnabled=true" Java system property for Policy Manager Server using additional_java_args (additional_java_args=-DclientNotificationsEnabled=true).

* Restart Policy Manager Server.

* Enable push notification support for CS 12.10 Beta using F-Secure Management Agent > Settings > Communications > Protocols > Push notifictions > Push notifications enabled setting from Advanced mode.

* Distribute polices.

Hosts connected to Policy Manager with push notification support turned on will be marked in domain tree with "online" icon. When policy changes are made by administrator notification should be issued to affected hosts forcing them to check for the latest polices. The effect is as triggering 'Check now' action from local client user interface.

Re: FSMA Push Notification.

Dear Marina,

The FSPM 12.10 Beta 2 version has published yesterday. Has there been a decision about the "Server Push Notification" feature, will F-Secure include it in the RTM version?

Thanks in advance, Yours Sincerely: Tamas Feher, 2F 2000 Kft., Hungary.

Dear Marina,

I think the push feature is absolutely needed and should be ON by default! I already liked how it worked in FSPM 12.10 Beta 1.

My view of the issue: considering the crypto-ransomware epidemic and the fact that larger companies often need to increase FSMA polling interval from 10min to 30-90 minutes for acceptable FSPMS performance, the current "pull-only" method of centralized management is simply not sustainable.

The security sysadmin who sits in front of FSPM needs a method to instantly intervene on threatened endpoint computers (which may also mean telling Software Updater to emergency patch some Adobe or Microsoft flaw in under 15 minutes) and I think only the "push" can achieve that, unless F-Secure wants to implement some expensive out-of-band management technology?

Furthermore, many customers have difficulty understanding how F-secure centralized management works, because the concept of pull-only communications is very alien to them, if they migrate from competing antivirus solutions. Thus they have problems setting up the F-Secure Business Suite in their networks, due to misunderstanding how it works.

I shall also mention that migrating FSPM from older server to a newer hardware is complicated and cumbersome with just the "pull" method available. This is a frequent grievance of customers.

Thanks for your kind attention: Tamas Feher from Hungary.

Re: FSMA Push Notification.

Dear Marina,

Please tell us what has been the decision concerning Push Notification functionality in the released-to-manufacturing versions of F-Secure new products: FSPM 12.10, FSAVCS 12.10 and FSAV (E)SS 12.00 ?

Thanks in advance, Yours Sincerely:

Re: FSMA Push Notification.

Hello Tamas,

Push Notification functionality is in RTM versions of all the mentioned products. It is disabled by default.

Re: FSMA Push Notification.

Dear Marina,

Is it still necessary to manually edit the Java properties before this new functionality can be enabled?

Thanks in advance: Tamas Feher, Hungary.
