Compiling the F-Secure on-access kernel driver (Dazuko)

Symptoms

The on-access scanner daemon is not running after installing Linux Security. Consequently, no file access is scanned for malware.

Diagnosis

After completing the installation, you notice that the on-access scanner daemon is not running. This means that no file access is scanned for malware.

You may manually need to compile the kernel drivers that F-Secure Linux Security needs. You may need to do this for several reasons, such as:
  • You did not have the compilers or other required tools installed during the installation.
  • You did not have the kernel headers and/or sources installed during the installation.
  • You have upgraded the kernel and need to compile the drivers for the new kernel.

Solution

You can easily compile and install the drivers by running the following command as the root user:

/opt/f-secure/fsav/bin/fsav-compile-drivers

The preinstallation checklist for F-Secure Linux Security is available as a separate article. It provides step-by-step instructions on how to successfully install F-Secure Linux Security.
