<main> <article class="userContent"> <p> </p> What does Messaging Security Gateway back up <p>This article describes what Messaging Security Gateway (MSG) backs up and how the process work. </p> <p><strong>Files that MSG backs up</strong> </p> <div>The configuration backup is taken automatically every night and has all settings and data stored, except for the network settings and quarantine data. F-Secure Messaging Security Gateway backs up the following data: <ul><li>dictionaries, </li> <li>certificates, </li> <li>server configurations - for example, parameters and attributes, </li> <li>lists of entries - for example, groups, safe senders, and blocked senders, </li> <li>list of quarantine folders - folder names and settings are preserved, as well as the references to folders in rules, </li> <li>user repository, </li> <li>saved reports, </li> <li>appliance configurations: <ul><li>DNS server, </li> <li>firewall settings, </li> <li>domain. </li> </ul></li> </ul></div> <div>Messaging Security Gateway also backs up configurations, such as lists and dictionaries, for the <ul><li>email firewall, </li> <li>spam detection, </li> <li>virus detection, </li> <li>digital assets, and </li> <li>regulatory compliance modules </li> </ul></div> <p>that the administrator has created. </p> <p><strong>Files that MSG does not back up</strong> </p> <div>The F-Secure Messaging Security Gateway - does not back up the following data: <ul><li>system and cluster passwords, </li> <li>data in the database - for example, messages in the Quarantine and Smart Search, </li> <li>log files, </li> <li>fully qualified instance name (FQIN) - for example, hostname-1000_instance1, </li> <li>update history, </li> <li>appliance configurations: <ul><li>Hostname </li> <li>Network settings - IP addresses, gateway, and netmask </li> <li>sendmail settings </li> </ul></li> </ul></div> <p><strong>Note:</strong> Software patches are not backed up. However, when you restore a backup configuration, a list of the patches you had installed will appear in the management interface. </p> <p><strong>To download a backup file</strong> </p> <div> <ol><li>Go to <strong>System</strong> > <strong>Backup and Restore</strong> > <strong>Download</strong>. </li> <li>Download the backup file (.pbc). </li> </ol></div> <p><strong>Note:</strong> The backup is software version specific. For example, you cannot import version 7.1.0 backup into a 7.2.0 system.
