F-Secure FREEDOME in Hong Kong
Due to the recent Chinese government activity and new security legislation in Hong Kong, we have decided to discontinue offering FREEDOME there, as well as close our existing FREEDOME Hong Kong location to ensure the privacy and safety of our users. Under the new legislation in Hong Kong, there is a risk that the Chinese authorities may even confiscate FREEDOME VPN servers located in Hong Kong without an appropriate warrant.
FREEDOME servers in Hong Kong have now been wiped and shut down. Windows, Mac and Android clients will notice this and stop trying to use the Hong Kong location. As the iOS operating system design is different, on iOS you will see an error message about a missing VPN location if you had selected to use the Hong Kong location. To continue using FREEDOME, you need to select some other location instead.
If you have had an active FREEDOME connection to the Hong Kong location with Windows or Mac client, FREEDOME may cause high CPU use. To overcome this, you can just quit the FREEDOME user interface by selecting Quit from the FREEDOME icon in the notification area taskbar or Mac menu bar. The problem will not reappear when you open FREEDOME again.
FREEDOME has also been removed from sale in Hong Kong from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store as well as from our own e-store. The existing users in Hong Kong can keep on using FREEDOME. The closest FREEDOME locations to Hong Kong are Tokyo in Japan and Singapore. We will scale up our capabilities for these connections as we anticipate increased demand.
These actions apply to both the standalone version of F-Secure FREEDOME and F-Secure TOTAL.
