FREEDOME cannot establish a VPN connection through a Sagemcom modem
This topic explains what to do if FREEDOME VPN cannot establish a VPN connection if a Sagemcom modem is in use.
F-Secure FREEDOME VPN cannot establish a VPN connection through a Sagemcom modem when using FREEDOME VPN on iPad or iPhone.
Some Internet Service Providers, including the Finnish ISP called DNA, distribute Sagemcom modems to their customers. Some of the Sagemcom modems prevent VPN solutions, such as FREEDOME VPN from working; at least models 3284DC and 3686AC are affected.
By default, the modem prevents the IPSec connections required by the iOS version of FREEDOME VPN. Android, Windows and Mac versions of FREEDOME VPN work without issues through the modem.
To solve the problem, do as follows:
- Log in to the Sagemcom modem with its admin account.
- Open the Advanced page in the modem settings and select the IPSec PassThrough setting.
- Save the settings.
Now the FREEDOME VPN connection works also through the Sagemcom modem.
