  • Thanks, Ben and season greetings to all.
  • @gradient61 Hi Alex it sounds as if you had both NIS, a commercial product, and Norton Security Scan , a free on-demand scanner installed at the same time. Unfortunately you cannot remove NSS by the Norton removal tool, because as far as I know it will only remove the commercial versions of Symantec/Norton. Therefore;…
  • "Whitehat hackers have struck back at the operators of the CryptoLocker ransom trojan that has held hundreds of thousands of hard drives hostage. Through a partnership that included researchers from FOX-IT and FireEye, researchers managed to recover the private encryption keys that CryptoLocker uses to lock victims'…
  • They are still too dark for me. Take a look at the New Norton, looks very smart. I know its dark for half the year in (Northern) Finland so let's think of brightning up the GUI!!!
  • I am with Simon on the new color scheme; sunglasses definitely needed!
  • "v6.0 - CryptoPrevent is no longer based solely on Windows software restriction policies, and now includes a real-time filter and definitions files/updates! " http://www.fooli**bleep**.com/vb6-projects/cryptoprevent/ http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/cryptoprevent.html#screenshots
  • I doubt whether HMP Alert will be immersed into the main HMP program for simple economic reasons; they use the free Alert only to entice users to buy the main one. And having 2 distinct products will still remain the same with the release of the much more feature-rich version 3 of HMP.Alert. There was also a suggestion at…
  • Yes, as the name suggests the present HitmanPro.Alert 2.6.5 only alerts for threats and you have to download and run their main anti-malware scanner-HitManPro to remove the infection. But versions 2.5 and above also offers CryptoGuard which helps in guarding against Ransomware. However, this time it will block the…
  • MBAE would be a very good choice for those users who are staying with Win XP.
  • This web-site is clean as judged by; VirusTotal https://www.virustotal.com/ ; SAS; https://analysis.f-secure.com/portal/login.html and URL Void; http://urlvoid.com/ On your PC, where is the error message coming from? F-Secure or Chrome?
  • Unless F-Secure has changed things in the last 3 months, you are only allowed 1 install of the trial version. If you uninstall for some reason (incompatibility with another program) you cannot install again. The uninstallation tool does not help and I have tried to remove ALL registry entries. As mentioned in my first post…
  • If you think that this Security Support Forum is poor then you have not visited many of them. Try BitDefender's for example!!! I have been a member of various security forums for over 17 years now and believe me this one is one of the better ones. Granted as with all Forums, official support may be lacking at Holiday times…
  • Just to add to what Simon said; after removing F-Secure I would use your previous AV's specific uninstaller if you have not already done so. List here; http://community.f-secure.com/t5/Security/Removing-other-Antivirus/td-p/33593 EDIT; I see that you have used the specific Eset uninstaller. Your post just beat mine! So…
  • @AndyY Optus support have already batted this one back to you;
  • @simoneden, Welcome to the forum. I see you have already posted on the Optus Forum about this problem; https://community.optus.com.au/t5/Broadband-Telephony/Optus-Internet-Security-Suite/m-p/27270#U27270 "F-Secure said that yes Optus was using the 2010 engine. .the program scanning and virus definitions are still the same…
  • Avira has improved dramatically in the last 6-7 months with its Protection Cloud feature. McAfee and Panda have also shown big improvements of late. But as long as you do not consider an AV as your ONLY anti-malware, then most of the AVs listed can be run in a layered defense. (okay I would think twice when choosing Ahn…
  • @Simon Since it appears that the "infection" is not on the system as such but on the server / ISP or parent IP address level, you will not be able to fix it. Their service provider will probably blacklist their IP address, if they have not done so already, so they need to talk with their ISP to get their IP('s) cleared.…

  • @Simon you seem to have used the major recommended scanners. Some more choices listed in this post; http://malwaretips.com/blogs/zeus-trojan-virus/ Even if a false detection, worth suggesting they think about changing any passwords for online accounts and checking their bank accounts for any unusual activity of late. EDIT;…

  • The average user IME does not even open the GUI once the program is installed. Most of the time they will not even notice that the system tray icon has not even loaded So the aesthetics of the new GUI is mainly for experienced "old Farts". Protection and performance are much more important (and the price).
  • @mckie357 I would be very surprised if F-Secure let through lots of trojans and viruses unless you are looking at zero-day malware. Spyware/Adware/PUPS I would understand. Give F-secure another try and try regular on-demand scans with Malwarebytes and you should stay malware-free. Latest real-world test over at…
  • As mentioned above try Unchecky.
  • "Why anyone would want to use only AV is beyond me" I was only recommending the standalone AV compared to the IS suite and not as the one and only way to stop malware. With the money you can save over the IS, you can build up a very strong layered system. Just relying on black listing is not a good idea. After all, AVs…
  • Looking at the price difference between the two and your preferences, save your money and go with the standalone AV, this will give you good enough protection. Looking at the differences between the two programs, it incorrectly states that DeepGuard protection is missing from the…
  • F-Secure SAFE includes the latest version of FSIS 2014 which is compatible with WIN 8.1/ Pro; http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/home_gb/safe
  • This new version has been a mess. In the words of the main developer, Marcin Kleczynski; "We did some things very wrong, big glitches with some of the UI, and so on. We're working on it. 2.0.2 will be released ~May 12th and will fix 30 bugs with scanning, rootkits, logging, and much more" My advice would be to stick with…
  • Running nice and light so far. Do not mind new color scheme; maybe possibility of choosing alternative skins, this one and the old one? The new scheme may be more relevant to Win 7/WIN 8 as desktop icon and tray icon in particular look much better with these OS's compared to XP. This TR may be picking up more…
  • Good read here; http://blogs.technet.com/b/srd/archive/2014/04/30/continuing-with-our-community-driven-customer-focused-approach-for-emet.aspx EMET 5 looks good and Technical Preview available now.
  • F-Secure released a paper today explaining their data collection: http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00002700.html Thanks, F-Secure.
