Today, according to F-Secure's Router Checker, the F-Secure SENSE Router is using CloudFlare's DNS IP Address.

Now, I am hearing, that CloudFlare has experienced DNS hijacking attacks in the past, so I am concerned that my F-Secure SENSE Router is using a CloudFlare DNS server.

QUESTION:

Why is the F-Secure SENSE Router using a CloudFlare DNS server?

    Hi @Issues4Life

The WAN settings show that you are using DNS 9.9.9.9 in your SENSE v1 router.

Since your router checker results doesn't show that you're using Quad9/WoodyNet but CloudFlare instead, we suspect that you have a custom DNS address set to CloudFlare somewhere else.

Can you maybe help to double-check your other devices' (win/mac/android/ios) DNS settings.

AFAIK the SENSE's DNS is set either via:

    • your ISP's router / modem
    • via the SENSE app under: Settings > Network > WAN settings > DNS

    Yojimbo ...

I already know how to set the DNS IP Address on my SENSE Router ...

Please understand, that is not my QUESTION ...

    MY QUESTION IS:

Why is the F-Secure SENSE Router using a CloudFlare DNS server?

I did understand the question and was just highlighting the two areas to look at and clearly the latter did not apply, leaving the former. Which DNS doe your ISP assign?

    Yojimbo ...

    Quad9's 9.9.9.9

May I assume that the answer to my question: "Why is the F-Secure SENSE Router using a CloudFlare DNS server?" is coming soon ??

Now it is evident the paths likely to affect DNS seem not to be responsible for the issue it will be interesting to read @Firmy findings.

    Hi @Issues4Life

We have not set our SENSE router DNS to use some 3rd party DNS but best to double-check check your settings.

Better still, send us your SENSE "WAN Connection" settings.

    Jaime ...

I only have my laptop and my phone ...

Would the Freedome VPN play a part here ...

    Freedome is always on ..,

And as you can see ( in ipleak.net ), the Freedome VPN points to the Cloudflare DNS server ...

I've run Freedome VPN for years and have always seen the Freedome VPN DNS sever ...

Now, all I ever see is the Freedome VPN and a Cloudflare DNS server ...

Also, does the IPv6 addresses match the IPv4 addresses in the screenshot I sent you ???

    Jamis ...

Attached is F-Secure Freedome's VPN telling me it's on and good to go ...

Here is a video from today ...

At the top, should't I only the IPv4 address of the F-Secure Freedome VPN ...

And, as I scroll down, shouldn't I only see the F-Secure Freedome VPN's DNS servers ...

Also, note that this video was taken from a hotel, and not from my office, where my F-Secure Sense Router is up and running ...

Again, thank you for your help ...

    Jami ...

I was thinking that perhaps ipleaks.net could be part of the problem ...

So here is a video from browserleaks.com ...

I am still in the hotel, and not in my office, where my F-Secure Sense Router is up and running ...

If the videos are not helpful, let me know what else I can do to describe my problem ...
