No you must not!
the size varies between 4 and 12 GB at the moment, so 8 GB is pretty OK!
The diskspace for PM should be assumed at 25 GB including all files, and a reserve for the next time!
Low diskspace will stop the updates and might also corrupt the PM database!
you could create a new partion for the DBs, copy the folders there and the link the partition to the folder db. that would give the system relief...

I have a similar problem but the database uses 25Gb of my disk. Is there any way to shrink the database?

There is a Hotfix for Version 9 that MUST be applied...
