F-Secure KEY on macOS High Sierra v10.13.3 causes high spikes in ping

After having for a longer time problems with unreliable network connections I finally found the culprit, when I have F-Secure KEY running in the background it causes these bad ping spikes:

64 bytes from icmp_seq=1699 ttl=64 time=2.483 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1700 ttl=64 time=2.386 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1701 ttl=64 time=2.384 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1702 ttl=64 time=1.875 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1703 ttl=64 time=2.276 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1704 ttl=64 time=2.410 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1705 ttl=64 time=462.535 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1706 ttl=64 time=13.687 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1707 ttl=64 time=476.615 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1708 ttl=64 time=205.282 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1709 ttl=64 time=296.315 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1710 ttl=64 time=564.264 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1711 ttl=64 time=294.248 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1712 ttl=64 time=23.138 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1713 ttl=64 time=2.616 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1714 ttl=64 time=2.381 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1715 ttl=64 time=1.695 ms
64 bytes from icmp_seq=1716 ttl=64 time=2.431 ms

If I close f-Secure KEY the ping stays at around 2,5ms. Do notice that I'm pinging my router over WiFi.

Here are the details from my installed F-Secure KEY:

Any idea why KEY affects the ping and what can be done to fix it?

    Hi brunnsbe1,

I forwarded your post to our KEY team for their inputs. Our KEY team is preparing a new release which should reduce the CPU usage on MAC. The ETA for the release is this week.

  • I updated to version 4.8.110 but it didn't fix the problem. Smiley Sad
