Why doesn't Software Updater install some updates automatically?

Software Updater only installs security-related updates automatically. The installation of non-security-related updates and service packs is required to be initiated manually via the Software updates tab under the Policy Manager Console.

Policy Manager 12 introduces the Show non-security-related updates checkbox (under Policy Manager Console > Software tab). If you uncheck the checkbox, the following update types will be hidden:
  • Microsoft security tools
  • Non-security updates
  • Service packs

Note: This checkbox is a Policy Manager Console specific setting. If you change the setting in one Policy Manager Console, it would not affect another Policy Manager Console connected to the same Policy Manager Server.
