<main> <article class="userContent"> <h3 data-version="20" data-article="000018669" data-id="issue">Issue:</h3> <p>How do we reset Unique ID (UID) in F-Secure Linux Security 64?</p> <h3 data-id="resolution">Resolution:</h3> <p>F-Secure Linux Security 64 derives the UID from the unique information provided by the hardware. Most virtualization platforms emulate the unique hardware information as well so every clone should be unique. This UID cannot be cleared or changed.<br></p><p>The unique hardware ID can be seen with the command:</p> <pre class="code codeBlock" spellcheck="false" tabindex="0"><br>cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_uuid</pre> <br><br><div><br>Currently, there is no mechanism in Linux Security 64 to clear UID as it comes from the operating system.</div><br><br><div>We are not sure if there is another way of cloning the virtual machine that would cause the UID to be changed, but you could consider to change the UID by editing the virtual machine's configuration file.</div><br><br><div> </div><br><br><div>As this needs to be done on the VMware side, you could refer to the following VMware documentation on how exactly it is done.</div><br><br><div> </div><br><br><div><a rel="nofollow" href="https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1541">https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1541</a></div> <p>Article no: 000018669</p> </article> </main>
