POP scanning not working on fetchmail client - F-Secure Community

POP scanning not working on fetchmail client
Symptoms

On a fetchmail client, the POP scanning does not work.

Diagnosis

By default, fetchmail retrieves e-mails by using the "TOP" POP command. On the other hand, because the "TOP" POP command is normally used to fetch only the e-mail header part, F-Secure Internet Gatekeeper for Linux does not scan it. Therefore, the e-mail scanning is not working.

Solution

Fetchmail uses the normal "RETR" POP command by using either the -a(-all) or -k(-keep) option. On the configuration file (.fetchmailrc), "fetchall" or "keep" keyword is used. If you need to scan viruses or spam messages on fetchmail, you can add the above options.
